Has anyone done this mod? Just curious if there is a kit. I've searched this forum and on google and come up with some solutions, but no specific "kits". Just wondering if there is anything out there anyone has come across for this purpose. I prefer easy things with instructions.

No I don't actually own an FJR. Just curious how difficult doing something like this would be.

I've charged my cell phone from the cig. lighter in the glove box with a regular car charger kit. Never did the laptop. Don't own an MP3 player. My XM radio and GPS are hardwired to a fuse block. The radar detector needs to be hardwired, but for now I run it from the cig. lighter. Somebody will pipe in shortly with more definitive answers, I'm sure.

I've "powered" my tank bag with a Powerlet connector that attaches to a receptacle I wired as a relayed 12v source. Pretty basic and common actually....and detailed in various articles at fjrtech.com. MP3 player, cell phone, laptop if I needed to, air compressor, several other devices.

Not as elegant, but simple and functional, I have an SAE connector for my Battery Tender hardwired to the battery. I made up an adapter with SAE on one end and a cigar lighter on the other. When needed I just plug the adapter into the Battery Tender SAE jack and use the cigar lighter to power the cell phone charger. I use a couple of small bungies to hold the phone to the bars while riding as it charges.

I just finished adding power to my GIVI top case for charging iPhone, iPad or laptop. I used the GIVI light kit replacement wiring harnesses. Connected a cig lighter socket inside the box, and ran the cable from the GIVI mount two the Centech fuseblock under the pillion seat. Using the GIVI wiring I'm able to remove the top case as normal without disconnecting any wires manually, which I'm sure I'd forget to disconnect!

Mine isn't on my FJR, but on my BMW. Similar to what Ian described. My Givi isn't wired, but I have a power inverter that I bought at BJ's (the wholesale club). I really don't remember how much it cost, but maybe $50? $75? It's mounted on the underside of the lid of the top box and wired back to the centech under the rider's seat. You do need to disconnect the wire if you want to take the top box off, but it was built with a simple plug for just that reason. I think it's been off two times since it was installed. I take my side cases off and only use them when I need them, the top box just stays on mostly.

My charger has 110, USB and a 'regular' car cigarette lighter charger (as opposed to the style BMW uses). It's really quite nice :)

I'd like to do something similar on the FJR but I'm still deciding exactly what I want to do on that bike in terms of set up so rather than spend money for naught, I'll wait until I decide.

If you would like to see a picture or have me get the name of the thing, I can poke around in the garage and get that for you - just let me know.

Good luck!

I'm doing this same thing. SAE-to-ciglighter female plug connector inside the tankbag. From there into a male ciglighter 2-port USB adapter that then sends wires to my iPod and my cell phone.

I electramificated my tank bag using stuff from jastek.

the kit for power sockets

https://www.powerlet.com/product/yamaha-fjr...rearset-kit/148

or

https://www.powerlet.com/product/yamaha-fjr...resent-kits/207

and

https://www.powerlet.com/product/yamaha-fjr...t-panel-kit/147

or

with a jumper cable from the front-set socket to the tank bag

https://www.powerlet.com/product/powerlet-b...duty-cables/315

where it enters the tank bag through a bulkhead connector

https://www.powerlet.com/product/luggage-el...x-connector/286

and then feeds just about anything using a combination of Y's, BMW sockets, SAE connectors, Cigar sockets (if no other option), etc.

Always test polarity of a socket so that you don't burn up a device. You can get the cable adapters for power-to-USB now for a lot of items or simply use a standard socket to the power cord that came with your device. If you pick your cameras and other accessories so that they use AA batteries, you can standardize on NiMH AA batteries and then always keep some charging on the bike using something like:

I feed the fairing socket off a switched power bar, so that the tank bag won't drain the battery if I forget to unplug it.

It works to feed MP3, Sirius, V1 and just about anything other than the GPS that I might think I need. I keep the GPS on unswitched power so that total elapsed time is maintained when needed.

I keep the potential bundled mess of cables under control by putting then into a Eagle Creek Quarter Cube.
