has anyone ever tinted the windscreen,if so how did it turn out and how is it putting up with the usage.also is there a post with differant graphics on the thread with pics of choices and ideas,thanks,30 miles on it and thinkin of crap to do to it...lol

You can't tint it with film. It won't stick. The plastic offgasses and it will peel off.

You can spray paint it....or buy a dark tint Cee Baileys.

I've got a dark tinted Cee Baileys short shield on my FJR now... using it during the warmer summer months. Did fine during the ride out to NAFO. I can post a picture of it if you want, or you can go check them out at the Cee Bailey's website.

From the Wayback Machine: my first FJR, a 2004ABS model, the infamous "Timex":

That screen resides on my current '03 FJR1300, HirschJäger edition:

I can barely see through it in one pic so I'd guess that it wasn't painted. How did you do that? Looks very cool.

I'm considering getting that windshield, would you please post some pics?

The RC car industry uses clear lexan bodies on most of their cars. A company called pactra sells paint that is specificially designed to bond, much like the krylon plastic paint. You paint the inside. The nice thing about the pactra is it comes in way more colors than the krylon does.

Thanks, I'm going to get the +2+2 shield but at least that lets me see how dark their "dark" tint is, I think that is just perfect. Hopefully I'll be able to get it before it starts getting cold this fall.

It depends on how dark you want it. A good way to tint acrylic is to get some Rit Dye (black). It available everywhere. You use a pan big enough to submerge the windshield, fill it with near boiling water and ad the two bottles of dye. then set the windshield in it and let it soak until the water is cool. Rinse off the shield and you're all set. The tint will definately be noticeable. Like I said, depends on just how dark you want it. This won't 'black' it out.
