I know that the Motorcycle Council compiles lots of very detailed statistics on bike sales and related issues.

I wonder if any one has detailed sales numbers on the various bikes in the official US S-T market space that they can share?

I'd like to know the breakdown, by make and model for the competitive rides. I'd also like to know that various manufacturers' overall sales numbers, to put it into perspective. If at all possible I'd like to get them for the current YTD and for the previous 2 years.

For example; I know that BMW sells all of 110,000 units worldwide and the US is it's 3rd largest market, so just how many K1300GTs are they likely to sell here, and how important is that relative to their overall sales, as compared to Yamaha, who sells something like 3,000 FJRs but a couple of hundred thousand bikes here alone . . . . .

Essentially I'd like to profile the trends between Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and BMW (and 'others', whch is how I expect it to pan out).

There's no commerce involved - just for my persoal edification. So I ould be grateful if you have the data and can scan and send it to me. My personal address is available by asking me through the board's PM feature.

Thanks in advance.

Once and a while Cycle World will publish a blurb on how many units a manufacturer builds and will include the markets they ship to. Might be a good place to start.

Don J. Brown, industry analyst for Dealernews Magazine may have the facts you're looking for (you may need to contact him, directly?)?

Here's a link to the kind of info Dealernews provides:

I think BMW is included with "others" -- they only have about 1 1/2 % of the U.S. m/c market....

You're welcome.
