I looked in the owner's manual to figure out how to adjust the handlebars, and it simply says to have your dealer adjust them. Well that's a pretty #*&(#$ answer, and unacceptable to someone who does all their own work (which strikes me as most FJR owners). I *could* just start 'whacking away', but if anyone has done this I'd love to hear some instructions/suggestions/tips.

Thanks! :D

I haven't done it yet, but I took the little plate off. There is a stud with a nut, about 13mm I would guess, and a 6mm allen bolt. I assume you remove the nut and allen bolt, and move the bars to a different position and put them back in. I doubt it is a big deal.

As far as telling you to take it to the dealer, they also tell you to buy tires from the dealer, and only use Metzler or Bridgestone tires. They tell you to have the dealer change your oil, do all the maintanance. My manual for my truck tells me to do the same thing.

Yes, I adjusted my bars.

You can't adjust one without adjusting the other, they have to move as a pair.

1. Remove the cover plate with a 2.5mm allen wrench.

2. Remove the large allen bolt, I think it was 7mm.

3. Then remove the hex nut, again if I'm remembering correctly, it's 17mm.

Then pick up on the handlebar(s) and move them to new locations. There are little metal studs that stick out from the bars that line up with little holes in the head unit.

Reassamble and your done.

I know, my bad for not taking pictures, but it seemed so easy I didn't even think about it.

The trick is that the studs that come up from the bottom that the 17mm nut tightens to will fall down a bit and you might have to reach under and push them back up to get the nut on.

Hope this helps.

I think this feature (bar adjustment) is a joke at best. What...it lets you move the bars about 5/8" total, and then only forward and back. <_< Why not the adjustment yamaha put on the Venture Royal years ago? :(

Hmmm. Maybe that's why I failed miserably. I could see one more hole to rotate the bar back but it would not line up with the cap screw nor did the captive nut want to move thus allowing alignment to the most rear position.

On your bike did the stud that the 17mm nut attaches to move easily to the rear position? Or did it not need to move at all?

I hate it when I find something difficult that others find 'easy'.

I had to remove both allen bolts and both nuts before I could move anything easily.

I then picked up on both handle bars and move them to their new location.

The bars don't rotate, just move front and rear. When you move the bars the stud(s) will move with the bars also.

The angle and height adjustment of the old Ventures would be great on the FJR. I assume that weight constraints nixed the inclusion on the FJR. The Venture bars are pretty beefy relative to the svelte FJR units.

You can't adjust one without adjusting the other, they have to move as a pair.
Now I read that! ;)
It's not so much that the bars need to move as a pair since they are two seprate units but rather that the mounting studs are connected under the top triple clamp so they move together.

Tip: Don't take the 17mm nuts all the way off the studs. Leave them on a few threads and everything will move together to the new position.
