I live down here in flat, hot ass Florida and the wife and I thinking of moving to Albuquerque New Mexico.

She has family there and the housing market seems to be about half the price of West Palm Beach.

I know the altitude is 5000ft and I'm hoping there are mountains around and nice windy roads to cruise.

Anyone on this website know the area or from there? My wife works in banking which I'm sure she could find a job, I am a certified substance abuse counselor and I am looking to send out some resumes now.

Any help would be appreciated. If you live there we will be visiting relatives the week of Thanksgiving, unfortunately we will not have the FJR this trip but soon.

Thanks,

Jeff

I don't live in Albq., I live in Los Alamos, about 100 miles north of Albq. but it feels like just a hop skip and a jump to the big city, I go there all the time. There's all kinds of truly awesome roads in the northern nm area. All within a day's ride. It's starting to get cold here but not too cold to ride. It would definitely be a change from sunny FLA though. There's lots of great scenery, tons of great roads that go all over the place, a pack of cool FJR riders, and a bunch of other makes and models as well! Try it, you'll like it!

A couple hundred miles north and you're in Colorful Colorado. My stomping grounds. JB

My .02..

I wouldn't want to live in Alba-turkey. Too flat. Too big, too busy, too congested. But then again I'm a hick who lives in a 'village' of 600 folks.

I did find Pinos Altos very nice though.. Had good friends who lived there and it was entirely different than my experience with Alba-Turkey. Try https://www.pinosaltos.org/ for info. Nice neighbors, higher elevation as I recall, nicer trees, etc.

I understand that folks like different things, but to me Alba-Turkey was very similar to Tucson AZ.. streets laid perfectly straight North / South, very big, lots of big box stores, etc. Things I don't need.

To each his own, but there are some really nice places outside of the 'city' that I would much rather live.

As said earlier, my .02.... :D

I've lived in Albuquerque for over 40 years. You can find good and bad in all places, but I like the desert southwest. Albuquerque is a medium size metropolitan area that tends to me more like Denver than Tucson. We can ride pretty much year round'. Plenty of opportunity for your job skills. "nmcoolblue" who also lives here, is in the substance abuse field and could most probably give you advice regarding employment. Albuquerque is a great "home base" with many great riding areas just out the "back door". As for Dcarver's comments, what can I say. Sure, it's always nicer to live outside a big city than in it, but most of us still have to make a living and Pinos Altos don't cut it unless you're independently wealthy or on welfare. Like Lynard Skynard (I think) said of Neil Young's "Southern Man", I say to Dcarver.......we don't need you around............Please stay in The People's Republik of Kalifornia!

I was stationed at China Lake NWC, in the high desert (5,000 ft) of CA. I loved it, but it isn't for everyone. It sounds like ABQ is not that far from some great adventures.

I currently live in the Central Valley of CA. We are 90 miles fro the coast, and 90 miles from the summit of the Sierra Nevada Mts. Perfect for me.

I concur that living on the coast isn't for everyone, either. Lots of lmoisture, fog and wind on our coast, but like everywhere elxe, if that's where home is, its great.

Good luck on your move...and it looks like you should get ahold of "nmcoolblue" and see what advice he can give you for job pooprtunities.

I need a second opinion. What do you think guys ? Can FJR1300Jeff make this kind of diagnosis without at least prescribing intensive winter ride therapy for me in New Mexico first ?

I believe my medical plan covers 180 days of mental illness treatment :D

There you have it.....No Replies means that the group agrees with me. You are just too far gone for todays modern medicine.. :dribble:

Doomed to a life of cold winters and pills. BTW: Do the pills really help? or just cover up a deeper issue??

I know I've learned for me there aren't enough pills, coke, or alcohol to make me feel better. I'm just doomed to "Live life on Life's term" But it could be worse....RIGHT!!??
