Hi guys,I'm the guy on the other site that did the mod to the bars. It is an 04 and it did get rid of the vibes. It has not worked loose yet, but I guess it is possible. If you don't carry tools with you, and you are not smart enough to lock-tite the bolts, and you are not smart enough to check the bolts periodically, then I wouldn't try this either. I have had a TBS done, but it was just set at idle, not at higher rpm's. Waiting on my sync tubes so I can do the sync myself, hope that works. There is absolutely no loss of feel in the bars, and they feel as tight as they were. I ride hard and have been doing so for about 16 yrs. (got my first scooter at 18). If the in depth TBS works I will undo this mod. This bike is the only FJR that I know of personally that vibes this bad, I've ridden others (my stepfather's) and they are super smooth ,like the ones you guys have that make the comments like , " I guess some people are just more sensitive to vibes than others ." Bullcrap, there are just a few FJR's out there that vibrate like hell!!! I was lucky enough to but one. As for the bars working loose, they are sprayed with 3m adhesive on both sides of the rubber, the bars aren't moving.
One additional 'vibe-reduction' resolution from some has been to loosen and then re-torque (in proper sequence) the engine mounting bolts. FWIW.

I must be the other owner since I have done Everything except retighten the bolts...will try to find that info today1 next is trying to get the CD to work in my laptop so I can install Wally's map!!!!

Make sure it's the updated wally map, not the one for the GENI.

You probably already noticed that, but they are different maps.

SCAB, thanx for the info. BTDT, didn't seem to help. Didn't mean to start off as an *** to anyone, I'm just really frustrated with numb feet and hands.... and smartasses. I'll get over it. Hope all is well in scooterland. :yahoo:

Be sure when tightening engine mounting bolts to tighten the left side first to torque then the right. Also if you haven't done already, take the front wheel of the ground and grab the forks to check for looseness in the steering head bearings. This could also cause vibration in the bars if out of spec. PM. <>< :D

No problem, mang. You just want your bike to be right.

Have you tried grip-puppies?

Have you tried grip-puppies?

Haven't yet, though they probably won't help my feet and the inside of my thighs very much, ha ha. Seriously though, I have the stock hot grips and they are pretty large already, so I don't really want them much bigger. But, at this point I'll try anything before selling this one. thanx. :dribble:

I really hope to find the cause. The rubber isolation has taken care of the bar vibes for about 900 miles now (and the bolts are still tight, btw.) It vibrates the pegs, the tank, everything bolted to the engine/chassis, everything!! It's in the motor or initial drive and I'M GONNA FIND IT IF IT KILLS ME :dribble: Whether it be balancers or an unauthorized tbs, I am confident that it will show up someday. It's a machine and it ain't that big. Thanks for the rapid forgiveness though! :yahoo:

My Morgan Carbtune will be here in a few days so I will see how a tbs at 4200 will do. I'll do it myself this time and I'll keep posted. PEACE

If you have more than just grip vibration and you haven't done so already, check for loose mounting points. Sometimes it helps to start at the end of each "system" and work towards the middle - I.e., cans, midpipe, pipes, head, etc... Also be sure to check the tank mounts. Good luck.
