Anyone tried riding across on SD 44 instead of I-90?

I'm thinking of taking the wife on the Feejer pulling a trailer from the Twin Cities to the Black Hills and I just hate the thought of hours upon hours of mind-numbing I-90 so I'm game for something a little more scenic to ride. Can anyone here vouch for the scenery just south of Souix Falls traveling on SD 44 to the east entrance of Badlands NP?

I have ridden 50 and 18 to Winner, it's ok. after Winner it gets a little more scenic, rolling country side, some farming some grassland. I take this route sometimes on my way to sturgis, it helps break up the monotony of the interstate. Depending if you want to see the badlands or not you can stay on 44 all the way to rapid city, it is a nice road and you can see the badlands off to the north.

The only gas along this route is winner, white river, and maybe interior? Not a big deal as far as the FJR goes on a tank of gas just need to plan accordingly.

I've run that both ways on the other side of Badlands into Rapid City. A lot more fun than the interstate and you'll get to catch some air if you go fast enough. A little bumpy in places and new pavement in others. I don't remember anything scenic out there. A lot of fields if that's what you mean by scenic.

SD 44 west to SD 73 north to I-90 to top off at Kadoka and take a looky at this Petrified Gardens then westward on I-90 with a a diversion back down through the Badlands and out again on i-90 at Wall sounds to me like a relatively interesting scenic 2 1/2 to 3 hour jaunt to Rapid City. Slabbin' it from Souix Falls to Rapid City on I-90....blecchhh!
