Anyone used the list yet?

Yep, used it.

When Bluestreak, TurboDave and I were in Washington before WFO5, we had to replace Bluestreaks front tire - and the first thing we did was dig out the list and made a phone call.

but always good to have. I carry it on my Palm as well as a hard copy in my tankbag.

Gypsy....thanks for the great work.....if your coming my way give me a buzz....I'll buy...lunch....dinner....whatever....I rode with brazos, teerex51 & everyone when I was on my loop home from WFO (via California) the snake, the dragon ,BRP etc....it was a blast.... call slappy (trevor) since he never gets to go away for more than a day or two....he's always around & ready to ride....& mike (brazos) too....thanks again for "THE LIST".....

our current project leader Steve Barnes, has again, faithfully emailed the fjr assistance list.

I want to personally repeat my appreciation of this effort. I know I feel better going out on the open road, even by myself which goes against my philosophy of strength in numbers and the buddy system that the military, boyscouts, and my scuba instructors emphasized.

Easily, it could save your vacation, enhance your trip with a friendly visit to a peep, or save your sanity when needing assistance.

I wonder if over the last few years, how and when it's come in handy, especially in a problem situation.

Thinking about this revival of an old thread, I got wondering about the original question from Gypsy. It was clearly set up as an "emergency" thing, which is great in the event of problems on the road, and always will have plenty of value for that use alone. But what about the "social" aspect of it? I, and I bet most on the list, would be happy to hear from someone from the forum who's passing through my area and would just like to share a few miles of local riding in addition to hearing my take on some good motorcycle routes to get from here to there that don't show up on the map.

Plenty of folks have offered up a spare bed or sofa, too, or at least camping space. Has anybody used the list in that way for travel? I don't think that would be abusing the purpose of it, do you? Do any of you think it should be used ONLY for emergency situations? (Don't worry, I probably won't be showing up on your front porch. Probably.)

p.s., Like most posters here, the list and the effort going into is are both much appreciated.

mostly, folks have commented they don't have the room, facilities, or have a ***** for a SO which is all completely understandable <nodding head>

I used to own a Concours and I still belong to the "Concours Owner's Group" (www.cog-online.org). The forum there is not the best, but much good info is available to members. They have annual dues and formal structure. It has been going for many years. I continue to be a member because I like it - suits me as they say 'join for the bike, stay for the people'. Once a member you have option of including yourself in the roster book which is sent to all members - organized by surname and also by state/city/name - with info similar to this FJR emegency list.

This suggestion sounds a lot like COG. We can all be in a FOG :yahoo:

PS - I will be around 'Snow Mountain' just about West Dover VT next weekend for a local COG rally. COG events are open to everyone.

Yes I have used the list to contact people about roads in their area and used it to phone people and to actually talk to them as oppose to emailing back and forth.

Back in 2007, on my way back to SoCal from Alaska, I absolutely had to get a new set of tires once I got to Washington state. I used the list to get in touch with a couple of riders from the area, who gave me great advice on where to go (and where to not go) for tires.

Thanks again for all of the efforts to maintain and distribute the list.

When I was getting ready to run down to Eureka, you had just sent the most recent update. So I printed off those in Wa, Or, and Cal. When I put it into my tank bag, I found the one I had put in there last year. I've not needed but don't leave home without it. Thanks

A good friend was heading up to Alaska. I call a member on the list to arrange tiring changing in Washington. My friend found another option but the list member was ready and willing to help in any way he could. So I guess I did but didn't actually use it. It is a great asset and the effort maintaining it is greatly appreciated.
