There's a few nuts in the other asylum including myself who are looking to do the ride to the summit this weekend to see the sunrise at the top of Mt Washington. Apparently, the auto road is open only a few times a year to do this, as well as the sunset version....

Not for the faint of heart for those with height issues, although being in the dark would negate at least half of the trip ;)

I plan on riding up late day Saturday to be there to pitch a tent just before dark because the ADV riders are going to be meeting up around 0330 :dribble:

I'll be two up with daughter in tow.... hope she can stay awake!

Oh, and planning on doing Hurricane Mtn Rd and stopping at the Blueberry Muffin for breakfast on the ride home. So, I guess this qualifies for a ride to eat :yahoo:

The auto road opens at 3:30 am on Sunday, July 29th. So, whaz the weather going to be at the summit on that day? The temperatures can easily be in the low 40s so dress appropriately.

Hot and humid. May even reach 50 that day. Chance of thunderstorms and then rain in the afternoon. Too bad no snow.

Keeping an eye on the weather, but a little rain won't stop me. Only thirty percent chance of rain at this point, but still a long ways off. Yep, can be hot at the bottom and cool to cold at the top, depending! I know there's still at least one bowl that still has ice pack still in it!

You can keep an eye on the weather all you want. Doesn't mean it won't be drastically different up there five minutes from now though. At least, that's been my experience.

Oh yea, and count me in the jealous as hell group.

I would be willing but I'm stuck in the armpit still.. Plus your sissy arse is once again skipping NERDS..

Is it because you don't want to collect on the Lap Dance I owe ya CJ?

Gurl

Just cuz my name ain't on the list don't mean I won't show up! Don't **** with me, it's about time for me to utilize some sick time

I've been up it many times on foot and once in a rental car, but never a bike....yet!

CJ We had done the sunrise at MT Haleakala on Maui yrs back. It was one of the most amazing experiences EVER! Totally awesome! Then even better we got to blast down the auto road on special setup bicycles! (Maui downhill bike tours) CRAZY fun I think Mt Wash would be a little more (puckerish)interesting in the dark  Be crazy but careful Pics you must! JAG

Sheep drop offs? They only have those in Owosso, Michigan!

An you would know this why ***********? The only place a Sheep could drop off of in Owosso is a curb when they are drunk.

Done that too many times myself, but, as the self proclaimed town drunk, the constable puts out barricades and provides a soft pillow and warm blanket for me to have a reasonably pleasant night curbside. ;)

It's not a secret, Barry. The first of the twelve steps is admitting you have a problem. I can see you're just not there yet. Would you like to talk about it? There are farmers who can help you with this...

I'm in but only if we wear shorts, leave out helmets at home and have a few drinks first.
First remove the exhaust system from the headers back. We would loose you with all the other Snarly Davidsons that frequent Mt Washington.

Not sure if the OP on ADV is still planning on trying to make this trip, but I'm gonna make the tough call and say forget it this time..... scheduled HIGH temp is 58, heavy rain Saturday and Saturday night. Just don't feel like fighting the heavy pig with my 13 year old daughter riding pillion up the muddy steep ****. I know, I'm a *****.... it's friday, go ahead and pile on.

The next (and Last) sunrise ride for the year is Sunday August 26th if anyone would be interested...... I'll have to check my schedule, but if I can, I'll start a new thread for that days ride.
