Robin & I headed over to Apalachicola on Sat afternoon to have some oysters. The place is famous for them and we had never been. The weather was a perfect 75 degrees and crystal clear. with detours...290 miles round trip.

We rode some inland back roads east from Niceville

then turned south into Panama City

We hit Hwy 98 and headed east through Mexico Beach...

The place is a real old-time fishing village. We ate on the Apalachicola River at a place called "Boss Oyster"...oysters and food were incredible.

Then headed west and home

It got down to 55 degrees on the way back home and the heated grips came in handy again.

Thanks for the great pictures. It brought back memories of a long ago yacht delivery. We put into Apalachicola after crossing from Tampa. I remember how great the food was then. I hope to get back there again sometime.

So, I guess you had a pretty ****** day...NOT. 75 degrees and clear, the beach :beach: , the water...that's gotta suck. Just some rain & snow up here today :cold: ...55 degrees would be nice at this point

Yeah...but the roads were flat and pretty straight. At least they were empty this time of year.

Dude! Drop a PM sometime! That nearly duplicates a ride we took last year about this time, my wife's first day trip on the bike.

Of course, I couldn't have gone this weekend. Laid up with a flu thing all day Saturday and Sunday. And Monday.

When I was an on-site repair tech I would schedule my day so that I would be in Apalachicola around lunch time. I used to get the seafood pizza there at the BO. Some of the houses in Apalachicola are the nicest I've seen, one that stood out had a hand-carved cypress foyer, 2 stories tall and about 12 by 14 feet, including the banister. There was some real Old Money there, but not much new money.

Trivia for Wednesday, the ice maker was invented in Apalachicola.

Nice Blue Falcon there Mike! Don't bother to let anyone else know you are going. If you haven't figured it out, I love oysters. Probably a smart thing though, since Wade and I make you look bad. ;)
