After following Fred-W through some of the more interesting roads between Huntsville and the border crossing at Thousand Islands...
That loud mouth Shakin was giving away my secret stash of roads again. I'm going to get Top Speed_1 to kick Shakin in the nuts at NERDS since I might fall off my crutches if I try.
So who do I blame for that stretch of dirt road covered with loose gravel?

Left Huntsville on Sunday morning to spend the day and night with my buddy at his cottage in Bala. Rode home on Monday, 5 hours on the back roads in 35C heat (95 degrees for those of you below the 49th parallel). It was a cooker!

What can I say. What an AWESOME time! Thanks to WNYFJR and INTECH for connecting in Fort Erie and riding up with me to Huntsville. The new GPS will ensure we don't go through that CRAP again in TO!. Thank you YAMAFITTER (Bill) for pulling this all together and being the leader for my first group ride on Friday. Some great roads. I hope you heal quickly from the shark attack. Thanks TOP SPEED and STEAMER for hanging with me. Enjoyed the company! Top Speed - I hope the "boys" are feeling better. Steamer - I hope you can find another "phenomenal" croissant in NY and Happy Birthday!

Great to meet everyone. We will see you again soon!

Cheers!

You wimps need to spend a little time on a proper dirt bike and then you might stop crying like a little girl (or Steamer) every time there is a loose pebble on the road.

We left Huntsville on Sunday morning and arrived home Monday @ 5:00 sharp. Thanks to Fred for the fine routes and excellent timing. Sorry we didn't get a chance to say goodby to everyone but Pillion had to have a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads in Hancock. We also had a chance to enjoy some dirt roads both days. On Monday we had a fairly long run of dirt on Rt 121 in Vermont.

Due to the forecast when we left for CFR we all left our best summer mesh at home. On Sunday we regretted that decision as it was hot. On Monday we really paid for it because it was HOT, sunny and humid (quiet you guys that ride in the south) and we were actually looking for some rain.

Yes, there will be no whining...... Just ask Beemerdons, Shakin or MEM about the gravel road we encountered on Saturday. FJR's make great dual sports in a pinch............

Hey, you were following me, right? Do I really need to 'splain any further? And yes, both stretches of dirty dancing were quite planned. Sorry if it bothered anyone. VT state route 121 into Grafton is actually one of my fav dirt roads. Fun going fast on a dual sport, and well packed and smooth enough for riding on a Feejer. It was also a bit cooler in the woods than on the open road.

Josie and I rolled back in last evening just a bit after 4PM after a great 6 straight days of riding. We never really ever got rained on, which is somewhat of a miracle as it did rain all around us during that time period, and we weren't intentionally dodging the showers. But having decided in advance to wear our warmer touring gear turned out to have been a big mistake. We were both completely spent after riding in the humid heat the last two days.

Thanks to BillyFitter and the whole CFR organization crew (you know who you are) for putting on a great event. Having great destinations to meet up with other FJR people for a couple of days is what this forum is best at. And CFR is (one of) the very best.

Arrived home at 5PM Monday after a great time at CFR. Thanks to all who put in the time to make these happen.

Fred W had some great routes to and back, but the heat certainly was taking its toll on us. Miss Daisy had some issues with her left knee(no it was the right leg she broke last year) and we actually had to stop for a get off about 15 minutes from the house.

All in all a great time.

Jack

Got home a little after 5PM yesterday also and was glad I split off from the NERDS crew when I did. Made GREAT time (

) most of the way down but then hit the wall where I expected. A good hour of clutch exercises, occasionally getting into third. And yeah, the heat did take it's toll but Garauld's hydration system helped tremendously.

A sincere thank you to Bill and crew for putting it all together, including the very nice touch of a welcoming glass of Forty Creek upon arrival. Rode some great roads, saw beautiful scenery and had some very enjoyable (and fun) company. Good memories.

Sooze and I are home. It was an interesting 451 miles getting home today - thought we were gonna get dumped on all day since when we got up, there was rain just south of Traverse City, MI, all the way to Detroit. But it moved out a bit, and the only real rain we hit was in Owosso where we stopped to say hey to MizzBust and kicked Bust in the nuts. If he had any, that is. We luckily missed some nasty storms that moved through at home - 60+ MpH winds, hail the size of a quarter... REALLY glad we missed all that although it's hotter'n hades out right now.

2248 miles for the week on the road for us.

Many thanks to Bill, Tom, Ian, and everyone / anyone else who helped out with the exercise in cat herding that is organizing one of these things!

I gotta go ****** - I smell like road slooge.

It didn't bother me at all and I know I should have expected it. I always enjoy following you. Glad to hear that you and the others are getting home safely.

Still down in Ingersoll visiting family. Expect to start the run west early next week... reckon I'll be the last one checked in (again).

Janet and I made it home 1645 yesteday. 2872.2 miles garage to garage. We left Sunday and were heading to Maine. ran into Fred and crew at a gas stop. We were just leaving. We also crossed at Thousand Islands then made our way on some nice back roads to Lake Placid for the night. Next morning all back roads to Ticonderoga. Went up Mt Defiance for a decent view. Very hazy. Found out that you have to pay $17.50 just to get to the gift shop and restrooms at the fort. I don't think so. We then took the ferry across right there and proceeded across Vermont on some great back roads. we did a little slab through NH to get out of the heat quicker and arrived in Sanford, ME around 1630.Had a great visit with friends that night and most of the next day and then headed south to my brother's in Mass. We went out on his boat on the CT river. Motored up to a restaurant where Janet and I could get whole belly clams. Damn we miss those! Left the next day through western Mass back roads into NY. Took the Taconic down to Bear MT. then headed over towards Middletown and Port Jervis and headed down the Delaware Water Gap. At the end of that took a short slab to Hazelton, PA for the night. The next day a short jaunt down 81 to hit 61 through Centralis, where the coal still burns underground, to 15 south and picked up 522 for the ride to VA. We were coming into some threatening clouds by the time we got on 522, but no serious rain. Janet had here rain gear on, but it was too hot for me to wear. We got just over the WV line and the sky and wind unleashed it's fury on us. I had my dark shield on and could only barely make out the tail lights of the tractor trailer in front of me. Had to wait until into Berkley Springs for cover and shield from the wind and rain. Changed my shield and put my rain liner in my jacket to act as a wet suit as I was already completely soaked. We got right back on and headed out. 522 was a flowing river at that point. I was behind another tractor trailer which gave me a good indication of deep water and when to head to the crown of the road. It didn't last too long and eventually dryed off and warmed up to 84 by the time we were home.

Thanks again to Yammafitter and everyone else who made CFR happen. Hidden Valley was a great venue. The area roads and were awesome.

Thanks to Tom and Pam for the guided tours. That was a lot of fun. Still awed at the Big Chute!

Thanks to Mike(Wine Guy) for setting up the meet for Mike, Laura and us. Most of the ride blanks out the bad part (401)
