Mikerider,I just got back from Death Valley Feb 8-10th. A little 4WD ride through

Titus Canyon and we drove out on Hwy 190 to Olancha and 395 to Mohave.

It's looking real frosty up on the Sierras. I think I would wait on Sherman Pass Rd.

for a little while longer. I don't see it marked as Hwy 155 on my Garmin City Select.

You've got to keep on you toes even when it's dry.

Serious wind down around Mohave and Tehachapi, although it will be on your

back going East.

Death Valley road conditions nearly perfect. Have fun.

Thanks for the info, WW. I'm not sure where Sherman pass is (couldn't find it on MS Streets) but I think it's way North of where I plan to go.

I'm going from Los Angeles -> Bakersfield->178->155->Kernvill->178->Death Valley.

I rode 155 east bound over Sherman Pass last weekend and it is extremely ugly..... miles and miles and miles on white sand stockpiled on the side of the road and it's all over the lanes. It's a first gear crawl, a lot of the time you have to drive in the oncoming lane as it's thick in your lane. There must be hundreds of dump truck loads along the side of the road. I've no idea what it is for. Over the top of Sherman is more sand dumped on the road to combat the snow and ice from a few weeks ago. Avoid 155 at all costs !
I'll be heading out to Death Valley from Bakersfield -> 178 ->155 ->Kernville->178 this weekend. Is the 155 section here ok or should I avoid it?

(I'm not sure where Sherman Pass is and where exactly did you see sands)

Thank you very much.
Riding east out of Delano, 155 is ugly from about the town of Woody all the way past the Greenhorn Summit at Alta Sierra. It's about thirty miles of first gear crawl. Looks like your chosen route is clear mikerider ! :)

Mikerider,

I found your Hwy 155 route..........it turns into Evans Rd. near Isabella.

Take local knowledge on that route. Sherman Pass Rd. is about 20 miles

North of Kernville on Mountain Road 99. You will have to get down to the

1 mile scale or less to view it. If Hwy 155 is tough I'll bet Sherman Pass

is uglier yet. Great ride after snow and ice have left the area.

I would take Highlander's advice on road conditions there........

Have fun in Death Valley,

Thank you so much for all your comments and advise. I appreciate them all.

Here is our plan: Los Angeles -> Bakersfield -> Death Valley

From Los Angeles to Bakersfield is all freeways. Then:

From Bakersfield to DV:

And here is the loop thru Lake Isabella (just to sample the fish filet at Johnny McNally's Fairview Lodge that was recommended earlier in this post by Airhead here):

We'll stay there for 2 nights then ride back to LA.

Thanks again!

AIRHEAD and I are shooting for a campover at McNally's campground on Friday night the 6th of April . We'll be riding there from Atascadero over 58/178. Our "intention" is to link up with jdog and the So-Cal ride from Ventura.

It is my "proposed" goal to scout this area for roads, accomodations etc. for a "possible?" meet-up site for a future campout/ride in June of this year.

AIRHEAD will be picking up his brand new '07 FJR 1300 on April 1st (2 weeks from now).

Congrats AIRHEAD! Are you going to change your name now? <_<

Great route. All roads should be in good condition. McNalley's is a great place to relax. Does anyone know if there are rooms available and the cost?

I'm in Bakersfield and if you can provide an estimate of when you'll hit B-Town, I'll try to join in. Post here or PM available info.

Paste.

George, run over to CalCoast Riders, run to the bottom of the page and contact Roy Hooper. He's lead on this show and has all of the info you'll need.

Final Update On this Saturdays ride April 7th not the 8th.

Hello all,

Since our monthly Club ride for April falls on Easter Sunday we will instead have our ride this SATURDAY, April 7. We will ride through Lake Isabella and have lunch at Kernville at around 1, so bring some snacks (trail mix, etc.). We leave Carl's Jr. in Ventura at 9 sharp, have a pick up at Fillmore Burger King at 9:40 and have a break and a pick up at the Castaic Shell on Parker Rd. at the I-5 at 10:10. I would suggest bringing a bottle of ice and water to sip on in between gas station stops, a cool vest if you have one (Lou sells these for $39(?)) and try not to wear black since it will absorb the heat. We will encounter temps from 50-90 degrees. We will have lots of blue sky!

I'd like to go on this ride with you guys. Was wondering if anyone from the I.E. area was going also and if they were going north on 395? I'll check back in a couple of hours.

If not, I will most likely meet up with main group @ the Castaic Shell station. Jdog, I was wondering if you had the address for that Shell station? Thanks

Thinking about going from Norco, CA in the morning. near the 91 and the 15.

Is there anyone going from Norco/Corona area or Inland Empire? If so, post a note and I will be checking responses in the morning. B)

203.3miles, one way from Norco to Isabella.

Thanks TWN, found it on Shell's site:31428 RIDGE ROUTE,CASTAIC, CA 91384, if anyone wanted it. DocDan, If you were commited to the ride, we could meet the group @ the lake by heading north on 395 and cutting over on the 178. If not, I'm going from my house in Hesperia and cutting across the 18 towards the 5 and meet them @ the Shell station @ 10:00am

If you're going DC you will be doing more miles by going to the Shell station, not that that is a bad thing! From here the gas station is about 100 miles. See you all there!
