This is the rendering of the memorial that will be dedicated to my son, Marine Lance Corporal Jordan Haerter who was killed in Ramadi Iraq on 4/22. He has been recommended to receive the Navy Cross for his actions that fateful morning. The memorial will be located directly on the bay at the end of our Main Street with the site itself being dedicated next Monday and the actual memorial being dedicated on Veterans Day when his entire Battalion will be back from Iraq and men from his platoon will be able to attend.

For those who might not know, the Navy Cross is the second highest award for gallentry, only one higher is the Congressional Medal of Honor. Not recommended or awarded lightly.

Semper Fi Jordan.....

The Navy Cross

Extreme gallantry and risk of life in actual combat with an armed enemy force and going beyond the call of duty.

To earn a Navy Cross the act to be commended must be performed in the presence of great danger or at great personal risk and must be performed in such a manner as to render the individual highly conspicuous among others of equal grade, rate, experience, or position of responsibility.

Beautiful.

My heart and prayers go out to you and yours . . . Thank you for sharing your son with us. What he did

will not go unnoticed.

May peace be with you.

It's men like your son we honor today, on Memorial Day.

Given a choice, he chose courage; Where do we get men like this? From Fathers like you.

This country can never repay the debt to him, or to you, but we'll try.

We'll try to repay it everytime we vote, or go to church or simply enjoy our Pursuit of Happiness.

Thank you.

I held up a placard as the Wheaton parade passed by and at the Wheaton VFW cemetery service yesterday with Jordan's likeness and info from Chris's posts. Everyone that walked that parade saw that placard (you could see the emotion in their faces as they looked) and a number of people came up to me to ask about the sign. I explained Jordan's actions and circumstances ...those who heard were moved.

Many from Wheaton were moved after hearing about Jordan and send their condolences Chris.

Thanks alot for all the support. Its really been overwhelming here. About 1000 people showed up yesterday to the parade and the memorial site was dedicated in a short ceremony. New York State has renamed the bridge that comes across the bay and terminates at the monument as "The Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge" and it should get the Governors signature either today or tomorrow sometime. That will be dedicated sometime at a later date along with the actual granite memorial when Jordans battalion is back from Iraq. Thanks to everyone who sent donations and sent words of kindness. Wheaton, thanks for doing that at your parade and ceremonies. I think that sometimes people forget that there are actual faces attached to names. This morning it was 3 more soldiers killed...Page 34 of the newspaper...10 pages past Mariah Carey and her new husband vacationing in Japan....

I'm perfectly, perfectly OK with that.

It is the finest testament to all the men like Jordan, past and present, that Americans can enjoy triviality and Pursuing Happiness, blissfully safe from those who would do them harm.

I've been in the Army and Army Guard for 18 years: I'm happy to have Americans enjoying silly **** and shopping at Walmart instead of worrying about extermination.
