Eh,

I don't mean to sound harsh. I'm just a little tired of hearing from folks this line about how they've done a few or a lot of big days but they never.......

( yawn )

....sent the paperwork in or whatever. They claim they don't need the cert. but they sure want you to know they did it.

I just don't get it.

And as for raising the bar, some folks actually do their first 1K day on tiny widdle bikes and even for those on modern bitchin' bikes a 1K day can still be quite the challenge. You raise the bar on yourself by trying the longer rides when you're ready.

I know lots of folks on the FJR who would find a 1K day challenge enough, modern bike or not. Just ask Beerme. :)

Good luck Rocketdoc with all your long rides.

You want to make it challenging? Do your first SS1k on a modern sportbike. Those 120-150 mile gas stops, little wind protection, and aggressive riding stance wear on you after time.

Might I suggest a 1959 Triumph Tiger with a steel seat and 1" of foam padding... OUCH - Yep, it WILL leave a mark!!

I submitted by BBG ride coming home from WFO-5 last July in August of '06. They cashed my check around December. I still haven't heard squat. <_<
Well, apparently Satan needs to put on his warm woolen mittens, cause I just got off the phone with Mr. Kneebone, and my post-WFO-5 BBG cert. is on it's way to me. Figured there was no way I'd get it before the IBR was done, but Mike said that all the IBR prep-work is in the can, so he actually has some time to get certificates out now before the rally starts.

:yahoo:

I shall never forget the Los Angeles SS 1K, 17 Laps of Hell, "We were stupid first" Talk about challenging, at least 8-9 hours of lane spli(opps, to be politically correct!!-SHARING) and a repetitive route with a referee checking everything on each lap. Some others here probably remember it also. HUH??
