Are these guys always stupid?

I no longer go to Arizona Bike Week, either on my FJR, my H-D FXD or any of my Beemer Fleet, for just the examples you have provided. Besides belonging to two FJR Clubs and three BMW Clubs, I also am a 25 year member of Harley Owners Group and a Member of the Chester's H-D Charter HOG Chapter.

I only go on a group ride with my Mesa, AZ HOG Chapter about six times a year and for every one of these guys and gals that have great riding skills, there is another guy or gal that should not be on a motorcycle.

Beemerdons,

I have come to the same conclusions as you have Don. I have ridden Harleys (and various other bikes) for 25 yrs., and will put my skills and experience up against those of most riders. It is embarassing and scary to see some people and the way they behave on motorcycles. I have all but shunned mass gatherings of bikes for just the reasons you describe. Stupid comes in all shapes and sizes, and on all brands of bikes.

And I'll pass on the thong pics......

I have a theory about survival in threatening environments like riding bikes on shared public roads.[good stuff snipped for bandwidth]
You know... I think this is the best-phrased statement about learning to ride a bike that I've heard in 15 years. I'm going to shamelessly steal your metaphor, and I'm saving this as something to remember.

Wee Willy, I second this thought! Your narrative was very well written and extremely insightful. Bravo!

Until recently I had a Harley FLHR and I never rode with other Harley owners. I never wanted to be a part of the old dress like a gay pirate thing. But I do agree that dumb asses come in all brands.
