A lot of people seem to be down on ArmorAll. What's that all about?? I would use the wipes on the dash and to give a final shine to the fairing if it wasn't hurting anything. I'd appreciate your thoughts. :(

Paulie

I know that the manual for the tonneau cover on my truck says NOT to use ArmorAll because it eats away the threads in the cover. Needless to say I don't use it anymore on ANYTHING.

Tom

I'd never heard about it eating away at the threads. That's interesting and something I'll watch out for. I used it for 30 years on the vinyl (or whatever it was) top on my '76 Pontiac Bonneville. It did a great job of preserving it for all those years.

Armor All sucks!!!!

It's "shine" is just a greasy coating, and it absolutely does not belong on painted surfaces.

If you've ever tried to use a plastic steering wheel after the car wash people "treated" it, you'd know how nasty the stuff really is.

ArmorAlled (is that a word?) my dirt bike seat once. Holy he!!. I thought I invented 17 new ways of falling off a bike. I am pretty sure the guy who invented the "superman" move on those big jumps was also a guy who ArmorAlled his seat. I used it for a time on my 65 Mustang's dash back in the day - it cracked a year later. Not sure what the real deal was, but I won't use it again.

It has a petroleum product in it. Once applied you cannot patch or repair. It is a big no no on inflatable boats. If you must wipe anything down, use 303. It is great and has UV inhibitors. I would use any of these on a motorcycle.....

I don't like it. There are things you could put it on a FJR, maybe a rubber hose or a seal of some sort, but there are better products for the plastic ( I use Plexus) and if you are worried about ozone throw a bike cover on it. It attracts dirt, dust, makes everything slimy. Don't even think about it on tires, just soap and water will do fine for everything but the pipes IMO.

A couple of people have mentioned Aerospace 303 - not available at my local NAPA. Where does one get it?

I have used Plexus on windscreens for some time. Didn't realize it was a good cleaner/protectant for other surfaces. Thanks for the feedback.

Years ago my freinds informed me that ArmorAll has Alcohol in it . If used over the long term will still be shinny but will crack your dashboard. I use Son Of A Gun made by STP it is a water base. Good Luck Verns

303 is good stuff. I used to manage an outdoor adventure store and sold the stuff to treat life vests and other such things that you wanted to keep from sun fading thus weakening. Use it all the time in place of Armorall. Boating (kayak and canoe) shops should carry it and if you do a google search, on 303 protectant, you will find quite a few sellers.

I think if you do a Google search and find the manufacturers web site they will have the answer. I actually found it in shopping challenged Napa, CA.

303 is great...I mail order mine by the gallon (do a search for auto detailing and you'll find it) but you can sometimes find it at boat shops.
