Well, here is another "potential" ride to art. I was notified by mail yesterday that 2 of my "trapped glass sculptures" have been accepted to the 24th annual " Made in California" Exhibit hosted by the City of Brea's Art Gallery in Brea, CA.

These two works are different works than the recent entry in the 75th Crocker Kingsley Biennial in Sacramento.

The dates of this Exhibition will be March 22 - May 1, 2009. An Opening reception will be on Saturday, March 21 @ 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and I plan to attend by MC. No charge & yes, there will be refreshments. Come as you are.

Trapped glass, do you ever come to Alfred? Sounds like the kind of thing they do around here.

Buddy of mine teaches at Alfred. He does similar things. His Name is Steven Dee Edwards. I have never been to Alfred. I've been to Corning though.

Congrats! :yahoo:
Umm, so what are trapped glass sculptures?
I am a glassblower and ride a motorcycle.

Basically the glass is blown into a mold and conforms as necessary. I like to weld and fabricate molds with metal to see what kind of variations I can make to a bubble. It's kind of an obsession with me.

Sounds cool. I love glass.Toured the Waterford factory when they were retooling in the 80's and saw parts to that process nobody usually sees on a tour, and it piqued my interest. A lot of glass blowing going on in Oregon and wife thinking of learning at some point how to do at least simpler techniques. In the Black Hills last summer I bought and shipped home a blown glass pitcher as a momento. Fascinating watching men and women using things like newspaper to control molten glass. Some of the pieces I've seen displayed at Seattle and Eugene airports were just gorgeous and jaw-dropping. I would like to see pictures.

Art work delivered. Here is a couple pics of the venue.

The reception is on Saturday, March 21, from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. I'm going to have to cage this one after all, as I am heading to DV directly afterward for 3 days with the Misses.

I always like to see my riding buddies at these things however. Maybe see(?) some of you there.

George I should be able to be there. Let me know around what time you will be there.

As man. You are so mean. Where are the pics? I can't make it to California to see it. And congratulations on your acceptance! :clapping:

Got an address? Maybe it is on my way, and I can swing by on my trip down south in April...

cheers,
Acording to Google, only about 30 miles out of my way down to San Diego in April. I don't see how I could miss the exhibit. Cool.... now I just have to look for mushrooms :)

Very interesting!

First, Jan (my wife) and I attended the reception at the 24th annual "Made In California" exhibition at the Brea Civic Art Gallery.

Second, it was kewel to see Steve Kuehl and his daughter in riding gear at the opening. Thanks for coming Steve!

Third, I won an award! WOW!

Hah! I was so surprised when the Mayor of Brea shook my hand that I needed to imagine that everybody standing out in the audience was covered with yogurt.

Here's what the work looked like, this one is called "Grab";

Have 3 more new ones underway at the Studio. Need to get them photographed.

Off to DV for the rest of the weekend.

See ya,

Great exhibit and George's work really stood out. There were only a handful of art that was not a painting or photo so Georges stuff was really cool. The only other one that was there that stood out was a set of about 6 pair of white boxers that were starched to death and standing on the floor on their own. I wanted to throw some pudding in one of them to make it more interesting. However I didn't think it would go over well. Especially with my daughter there. I have a hard enough time being a good example. Well. Who are we kidding, but I try at least.

George great job. I put my vote in for you.

If you haven't gone. Go. Support a brother.
