I'm in CT. Bought the Audiovox CCS-100 but not sure I have the time/skills to do a clean job on it. Doubt the dealers would take the liability risk. Any thoughts?

And, yes, I did take a look at the well documented install article.

Thanks, George

Unless someone else pops up with an offer, I would try some local dealers and M/C-specific shops. Don't rule out non-Yamaha dealers either. It can't hurt to ask.

Hey George,

You're probably right about a dealer and liability. If they don't sell it, they probably won't install it.

You might have luck with a "neighborhood" type bike garage if there's one in your town. Check with folks at work, there might just be a network there waiting to be discovered.

You can do it yourself if you just take your time and plan it out in advance, even though you're questioning your own abilities. Lots of folks have done it successfully who thought they couldn't.

Go man, go

An option might be to get the MCCruise instead. A bunch more expensive, but a lot more plug and play. Might even be able to buy it through a dealer. Bet you'd have a grand in it, though, before their finished.

Maybe you East Coast boys should get together for a tech day?!?!

I'd offer to help you out in a primarily supervisory fashion, but you'd have to drive down to TN.

Maybe we could have some tech stuff at EOM, but I'd be wary of doing a cruise install while on the road in a hotel parkinglot...

Maybe you should check the member map and see if anyone in your area has installed one and might help you out for a few beers!

If you have someone do the install for you be sure to ask how many CCs they have installed, how many specific AV CCs and if the installs have been on a FJR or ST. The AV CC manual is written for car/truck installation and doesn't come close to a bike install. Do you want your bike to be a guinea pig for a shop? At least we have access to a LOT of FJR specific information here and at other sites such as the FJR Info site.

When I did my install I sealed the control pad (a must if you don't put switches in the left side handlebar plastic housing). I had to fab a custom mounting bracket for the servo unit as well as one for the control pad, both of which I painted. I cobbled a vacuum reservoir and took the time to purchase vacuum diodes (one way vacuum ports, available at almost all auto marts). I took great care to drill the throttle stop and used the cotter pin mounting technique for the throttle cable. So, you have to ask yourself -- Would your installer take the time and the care to do a thorough job with all the details done right?

All points well taken - and that's the conundrum!

Definitely not spending $1k for cruise but it would come in very useful, especially if I make it to Reno... Also, reluctant to take chances with such a critical component.

Forgot to mention that I have ABS which might also impact the install?

Thanks all, George

I've suggested this at my house many times before. I've got all the tools equipment, etc. AND, my garage is heated. No one ever responded. Oh well.

George, I'd be happy to assist you, but you'd have to come to me in NJ. I'm near Giants Stadium, to give you an idea where you'd have to go.

I would absolutely LOVE to see a few (dozen?) FJR's in my driveway. If nothing more than to piss off my neighbors. :D I could probably fit 20 or so bikes in my driveway and still have room to move around. My garage can house 3 or 4 at a time with room to work.

I'm in suburban Philly.... Once "starting in March" comes chances are you'll see me, the CC and my brand spanking new 06 FJR.... I like Smithwick's (only two though... if I'm riding that's my limit) whatcha drink?

@FJRandy

Very generous offer as my garage is unheated and cluttered (3 bikes has something to do with it). I'm about an hour from you but concerned about the imposition. Since mine is ABS, it appears a tedious task is made even more tedious. How long would it take us and could you be working on your own bike while giving me pointers? I truly don't want to be a burden yet my efforts to date on the FJR have been limited to simple basics such as carb sync, oil change and Mokos. Ionbeam's comments struck a chord!

Thanks, George

Like I said, I'd be assisting YOU. I understand Ionbeam's concern, and yours as well. But at the same time I find it hard to believe this thing is that tough to install.

With all parts needed and understandable instructions in hand, how hard could it be? I seem to recall tons if install pics submitted by people who've done it already. Like they say....a picture's worth a thousand words. I can even make any kind of bracket you might need to do it right. The trick is to have EVERYTHING ready to go....BEFORE you dig into it. Realistically, I can't give a time estimate because I haven't done one yet. I'm sure others here who've done it already can give you a better time span than me.

Oh and BTW......I install auto alarms, remote starters, audio, navigation, cellular phone kits, etc etc for a living. I might have a slight clue how to rig a cruise control. ;)

Not to mention over 150 satisfied customers who bought my Magnum Blaster horn harness. All I need is the correct wiring locations to tap into, some pics for reference, and proper instructions.

The offer is open. To you or anyone else local to me who need a place to do work on their FJR. That's about all I can say.

Sounds good. Let me check back with you in early spring.

Many thanks, George

Hey Randy! Didn't know you were so close. We'll have to do the Chatterbox bike nite when the weather warms up w/ my friend Chuck, an 05 owner. I'm just off I80 exit 35/37.
