I have a pair of Hella Micro De I'd like to install on the FJR for an upcoming rally. Has anyone had success putting them somehwere other than the mirrors...I just don't like the looks of them there.

I was thinking on the fork reflector mounts or somehow tucking them under the nose????

Ant previous experience?

Not on the FJR, but I've seen a few other Beemers mount them down along the forks. You're adding to the unsprung weight though. Those DE's are tricky critters to make less like something out of The Matrix.

I wouldn't suggest under the nose. Those forks compress more than you think I doubt there's clearance in a stop that would invoke front ABS.

Well, what's important to you... looks, or functionality?

If you want to use your Micro DE's to actually see down the road, then you *want* them under the mirrors.... as a general rule, aux driving lights that are intended to be used as designed need to be mounted as high as practical, and as wide as practical.

If you are more interested in other drivers seeing you, then mounting them on the forks is the preferred method. The become de-facto marker lights mounted this low, but they are very effective marker lights. :D

If you are installing the Hella Micro DE HID lamps, use the mirrors. Trust me. It would be extremely wasteful to put Micro DE HID lamps on the lower forks.

If you are installing the Hella Micro DE Fog lamps, you might as well mount them on the forks, as these are marginal lamps for long downrange use anyway, particularly considering you are going to spend almost your entire electrical reserve powering 110-watts worth of H3 bulbs.

As Iggy correctly observes, it is ill-advised to place these lamps under the nose.
