What is the best way to connect a power cord from an external accessory to the auxiliary dc jack in the "glovebox" ?

(with lid closed)

Thanks,

Ralph

um, drill a hole in the door.
Er ess yew kud yoose sum reely reely teensy wyer. :D

For years, those of us running aux. power to tank bags and other accessories have added "Powerlet" or "Jastek" sockets to our dash panels. IIRC, the plug in the NewGen compartment has a low amp fuse that's probably good for a cell phone, etc.

Rubber drain plug in the bottom of the box.

Slice a little hole run the wire, reinstall, not easy with big hands.

Another good option is the powerlet kit for the left front panel (since you don't have the AE model):

Clicky

Its fairly easy to install, and also allows you to use a battery tender.

I just put one in and it is easy, pariculary if some one with small hands are around to help.

Since for most, the aux DC jack itself is useless where it's located, I recommend tapping into the Aux DC circuit itself and as others have said, use a Powerlet or similar jack mounted elsewhere. The Cig lighter plug connects to the bike in an area where you can get at the wires and tap onto them, effectively making two parallel-wired plugs on the same circuit. Just remember that the 3-amp limit still applies.

I'm curious. What sort of farkles do people plug into these cig/powerlet sockets while underway?
I have 2 in the "D" panel of my Gen I. One is "switched power" that I use to power my tankbag. In my tank bag is my AutoCom (which in turn powers my 2-way radio). I also run a splitter that has a cigarette adaptor so I can charge my phone while under way. My GPS and Escort radar-detector are wired direct to my auxilary fuse panel.

The second powerlet socket is wired direct to the battery through a circuit-breaker. I use that for my 12v aircompressor (or I could use it for a 12v trouble light or map light).

Others use them for heated clothing or to plug in a GPS or radar detector.

Cool. I never really figured on portable audio. I used to have my 04 rigged for Sirius and the installation was permanent. My phone lasts for days on a single charge so I don't worry.

I do have accessory outlets, just nothing up front where the wiring might get floppy and in my way. Personal preference.

Well, I have my GPS, Escort and the PTT for my 2-way wires running into the front of my tankbag, so its a permanent fixture on the FJR. The Power is easily unplugged. Since everything is through the front of the tankbag they never get in my way. BUT, I'm used to this set-up.

Don't leave a cell phone in the box charging while underway. Gets really hot in there and fries the cell phone....please don't ask me how I know.

And among other farkles this year I'm having the cig. lighter rewired with heavy gauge wire and a 15 amp fuse........along with a blue sea and side mounted powerlet.
