Ok for long distance touring which one will last longer. I liked my last set of Avons I figure the Storms would last just as long but then I read that Pilot Roads are good touring tires too. I'm talking fully loaded and touring .

Never ending thread. Both are fine tires. Its your preference as which to use. I like the Avons and will continue to use them until one of the LD guru's find another suitable , better tire.

I've had both. I like the Avons much better. I'd get BFG before Michellin again. (I've tried all three and Michellin was my least favorite if all of em)

I ran Avon's for a good portion of the rally season last year. I decided to try out a set of Pilot Roads out near the end of the season and found them to have about the same wear.

The two tires are shaped differently, so really a lot of it is going to be personal preference.

Me personally I'll probably make the switch to Pilot Roads for this season only because Avon still hasn't gotten the point that people want the damn weight dot on the tires!!!! This makes balancing your own tires a total ass-pain. Not a big deal if you go through a set a year, but when you burn through 3-4 sets a year, it really sucks. :angry2:

+1,000,000

I go through an average of 8-rears and 4-fronts per year, not counting flats.

Art, I find that the PRs (and I'm running them now) don't "turn in" as easy or quickly as the Avons. For the most part, I like them. I was thinking of going with the Avons next tire switch (I had the Pirelli's before the PRs). I seem to get close to the same mileage on all brands, but I tend to change them early where you LD guys, by necessity sometimes, run them to "air" (I've seen Skooter's pictures).

I don't know how your tire wear is balanced between the front and rear tires. You might consider a Pilot Sport on the front, or ask around if anyone has tried this combo and get their opinion/advice. I know of someone who is trying that approach with the Pirelli's right now, but he's snowed in and hasn't been riding, so no report.

The PR's don't turn in quite as quickly as the Avons because of the profile difference. Now I've found that the PR will hold a line alot better than the Avon which tends to keep 'falling over' if you will. With the Avon you basically have to hold your line where you want it, while a PR will hold the until to tell it to move.

I really haven't considered doing a sport/road combo, but I know someone who does it on his CBR 954. He likes the combo on that bike.

Honestly I don't think I've ever fully worn out a tire. I usually have some event come up that requires me to slap on fresh rubber, so I've always had to replace my tires early. I'm taking it a bit easy this year so I'm hoping to be able to wear out a set of rubber instead of pulling them with 2K+ of use left on them.

How many times do I have to tell you? Never change your tires with your back to skooter! Sheesh, you'll never learn. ;)

I've run both and I'm thrilled with the new Storms except their claim of extended wear is pretty much ********. I have no issues with the balance as my dealer sells the tires at in'ernet prices, mounted and balanced. So what do I care about silly dots? Also, bear in mind that the new Pilot Road is due out later this year and that could prove to be even better than the Storm. We'll see. But for now, my choice in tires is #1 Avon Storms and #2 Michelin Pilot Ro-ads. There is no #3.

Winner winner chicken dinner!

After rolling through MANY sets of Azaros and Roads, I'm now inclined to roll with the Roads for the very reason Vecter describes. I want to tell my bike exactly when and where and how hard it should turn. Every corner is different. With the Azaros, I got used to them, but I couldn't finesse them like I can a rounded profile tire, such as the Roads.

I ordered some Storms just to try them out, and we'll see. But more and more I'm liking the Roads, plus I can get them anywhere, where as the Avons not so much.

Tom Melchild ( Cal 24 Rally Master ) has been running the Road in the rear and a Sport on the front for forever. He loves that combo as the front wears out about the same as a front, so tire changes always come in fresh sets. This makes sense, while being a bit more expensive.

G, if you like the Roads, you'll love the Storms. But mess with the pressures. The Storms seem to like them higher - at least they do in my case.

My last set of tires was Avon Azarros, which lasted me over 13k miles. I don't do alot of stop & go driving, and have yet to touch down a peg, that'll give you some indication of where I'm coming from. Liked the Avon handling & wet characteristics (rain? so what...) so I replaced with another set of Azarros a month before the Storms came out.

I've not had the PR's on the FJR yet, I have the Storms now. After today, I'm fairly certain I'm going to try Pilot's next. I find the storms slippery on the tar snakes and painted lines much more so than I remember on the 11.

The bikes have about the same power and weight, though I'm sure it's an apples/oranges comparison.

Ya bunch of girls! get a real tyre....Perili Diablo Strada...Just had a new set put on today great wear and excellent grip wet or dry although I have heard the Pilot 2 is supposed to be pretty damn good.
