Blessed be me, for I have has the good fortune to spend a bunch of hours in Evergreen's B-17, before it was parked in the museum. Likely for good now since it would need several $$$ issues fixed, including a wing spar.

My good fortune extended to some very limited time in the left seat, since I have steered a few old critters around in the past.
Tell me more?

..intriguing, and you've not mentioned this in the past..

.....hell, doode, Reno Air Races this Sept?

For anyone who isn't aware the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In starts this week in Lakeland, FL.

Always lots of old War Birds. A couple of years ago my sister-in-law won a drawing to ride in one of the AeroShell T-6's. She said it was something she will always remember.

I will always have the utmost admiration and respect for the brave air crews that flew the daylight bombing missions over occupied Europe in 1942, before there was long range fighter escort. Probably the closest thing to a suicide mission our AAF people had to face.

When World War II broke out, my Uncle Bob Harris of Carrollton, Missouri went down to enlist. Since he was already a pilot, he was assigned to the Army Air Corps.

Since he possessed air flying time & miles, he was immediately put in the sky in the L-16 Grasshopper and patrolled America's borders from the sky for the rest of the war. He repeatedly asked for overseas duty, unsucessfully! My Sister Marsha and I still miss our Uncle Bob; he founded Beck & Harris Construction Company of MO.

On a sad note they will be tearing down the old Saw tooth building that a lot of the B-17's were built in.

It will be sad not to see them there anymore.
