Got 'er done :yahoo: !

Left my house early Friday, entered MEX at the Andrade crossing just before 7am. Gas + receipt at the Pemex around the corner then back through the border, zero wait to get through. THANKS Beemerdons for your advice on this crossing, you nailed it buddy :coolsmiley03:

This ride was also to test my new (to me) Garmin 478. NEXRAD is surprisingly accurate...dodged a storm cell in Kingman, got hammered with rain from the UT border to SLC. Nexrad showed exactly where the rain started and ended.

I underestimated the temps through the ID and MT mountains....it was freaking cold, down to the 20's, mostly in the 30's. I only brought the heated vest, which wasn't nearly enough...stopped at almost every gas station to thaw out. And WTF is up with MT deer??? Fearless bastards, jumping the center divider on I15!

Made it to Coutts, no wait on either side of the border (although both CDN and US officers did ask what motivated me to do such a ride, LOL). Got a reciept and ending witness at the duty free shop, almost exactly 23 hours, 1391 miles.

Just got up from a 6 hour power nap in Helena, now getting ready to head home. :coolsmiley03:

Nice Job! Weather can be pretty unsettled this time of year up north. Sounds like you were in the window albeit cold. Congrats!

Definitely! I barely avoided a huge storm coming in from the west. This ride was sort of a last minute decision...wanted to get it done before it got too cold.

Also of note, this time of year the sun doesn't come up until around 7am (!) at that lattitude. I get a natural energy boost when the sun comes up. Didn't have that on this ride.

Nice, and thanks for sharing the tip about Andrade.
Note Andrade-Algodones is open 6a-10p.
CONGRATS!!! :clapping:

I would like to attempt the B2B2BI next year, hoping you write a Ride report complete

with mapping. ;) Did you run SPOT? Any plans on a B2B2BI?

Thanks, Tony

Tony,

Yeah, see post #1, that was my ride report :cap: . Not much to report, other than a straight shot north, then turn around and come home. I did run SPOT <LINK>, forgot to reset it after 24 hours so it doesn't show the CDN portion, but you get the idea.

B2B2B wouldn't be that much more of a stretch from this; Algodones is less than 200 miles from my house, but no plans to do one; IMO "certificate" rides aren't nearly as fun or engaging as rallying.

Where is the Andrade crossing? I am considering a B2B the first weekend in November because I have a 3-day weekend and am on a consulting job assignment in Tucson AZ.

https://digthatcrazyfarout.com/crissXcross/borderline/pages/andrade.htm Here you go, Jim. Andrade is just west of Yuma on State Route 186. It is the preferred Mexico Border Crossing Station for we FJR Forum Zonies for three reasons: 1) Fast access to Baja and La Rumorosa Grade: An incredible mountain pass ride on a motorcycle. 2) You can pick up both your Turista Carta - Mexico Tourist Card and your PVMT - The Mexico Banjercito Vehicle Import Permit there; needed if you run down the Baja Peninsula and then take the La Paz to Mazatlan Overnight Ferry. You need the PVMT for any vehicle operation on the Mainland, outside of Sonora Estado! 3) And super quick crossing times here!

Now, check this out Jim! This is the "old" La Rumorosa Grade. I first rode this 44 years ago on a BSA Victor 441 and it scared the shit out of me back then. I still get the shivers thinking about it! Dios Madre, Mexican buses used to negotiate this dirt road; can you imagine the look on the passengers faces!!! Muy Peligro y Mas Loco!!!
