Had an old Backoff module laying around so stuck it on the FJR tonight. Took about 10 min. and works great. I wanted to get a little more notice from the rear so-to-speak and this did the trick. Flashes a few times, stops, and flashes again as long as you have the brake on. I like it.

Just picked one up myself. It's going on my '07 as soon as it comes out of the shop B)

If you wanted more notice from the rear, you could just do Buns of Steel. :D

Is this a plug and play unit or is there a bit of cutting and splicing involved? How hard to access the wires?

I have one installed that works my 6" LED light strip mounted under the edge of my luggage rack. It does keep traffic back.

It has to be spiced into your tail light wire.

just read on another forum where their Backoff brand failed and left them without any brake lights until they discovered it later.

made me glad i used the Hyper-Lites which are secondary and, if they fail, do not affect your oem brake lights.

--update--

i didn't want to go tooting specific vendors' horns, but since everyone else broke the ice, i'll recommend one of the SFO sponsors as a source for Hyper-Lites: Sampson Sport-Touring

Good people, good company, good product and they are a supporter of our community.

Bounce, that's why I wired mine to only work the LED strip. The stock tailight is still there and is unaffected.

I think I got mine from Cycle Gadgets.

+1 on the Hyper Lights.

Have had them on my 05 for near 2 years without any problems.

No Doubt, they stand out.

I have had these on most of my bikes and never had one fail. I checked with my dealer, who's a friend of mine, and he said he never heard of one failing and thought even if it did it would not kill the brake light only the pulsing of the light. Here's a link https://www.signaldynamics.com/ for the person who wanted one. I'll contact them directly for an answer as to what happens if it fails but really think the chance is remote.

I put one on my 05. Left the normal brake lights as they came from the factory & wired the backoff to the brake light on the Givi trunk & also to the 6" LED bar on the rear. I like the combination of oem reliability & the attention getting backoff on other lights in the back. I saw a GW1800 that had an LED spoiler wired in this fashion & liked the combination. I plan to do the same to my new 07.

Not plug and play but easy to install. Just remove rear seat and locate the wire harness leading toward brake lights, carefully cut protective sheath, just a slit so you can get to the wires, locate brake wire using a probe, I believe mine was brown with yellow stripe,(I'll check for sure later) cut wire, add two wire connectors and place Backoff module in bike with White wire with red stripe leading to light and red wire leading toward switch. A little tape and you're done.

I installed the wig-wag version. You need to open a loom under the seat with a blade to find the wires, then cut them and splice in the unit. Same at the brake lamps, where things are a little tight. I did it with crimp-on connectors so I could just bypass the unit if it failed. This takes a little planning to get the male-female connectors right.

Same thing, easire install is the Tail blazer bulbs from Kisan. Just replace bulbs with these and they do all the flashy stuff. Brighter (halogen) too. Plug and play.

If you want to do the other, i might suggest posi taps. Then you don't need to cut any wires. That's how I wired a signal dynamics led bar. Makes it a five minute job. It goes back and forth anytime the ignition is on. Real eye catcher I'm told. However, it doesn't work with the brakelights like its' supposed to...I'm guessing due to the tailblazers.

I have the SOS priority lighting system installed on my three streetbikes. It converts the rear turn signals to running lights (through reduced voltage) and when the brakes are applied they flash rapidly. The turn signal overrides the rapid flash to avoid confusion. I have found it very effective in getting people to "back off". The only place that seems to carry it is Competition Accessories.

I had a Kisan Tailblazer on my BMW and it was great, never failed. I've been thinking about something for the FJR so this post was timely.

I bought a 6 LED Peterson light that works the same way from a local auto supply. Flash twice, off - flash twice, off.

It cost about $60 but has the modulation built right into the circuitry.

Ran two wires up into the rear storage compartment (if you can call it that!!!) and spliced into one of the brake light circuits - hot and ground. didn't cut any wires - just used the quick connects.

The neat trick about this one is that there's an external mount that you can get that fits almost perfectly where the reflector mounts down below the license plate. Looks really good and is very bright...

That site doesn't seem to be too user friendly. What is the model you got and what is the bracket number?
