Harley-Davidson® will idle its plants for the final week of November because of slow sales.

Harley-Davidson® will be closing the plants the week of Nov. 26, the company told its employees Friday.

Based in Milwaukee, Harley-Davidson® also has an assembly plant in York, Pa., and three manufacturing facilities in Wisconsin.

The assembly plant in the Northland, Kansas produces the Harley-Davidson® Sportster, Harley-Davidson® Dyna and Harley-Davidson® V-Rod motorcycles as well as custom bikes. The plant has about 1,000 workers, including about 850 hourly employees.

Joe Capra, business representative for Machinists Local Lodge 778 in Kansas City, said employees won't be paid for that week off in November, although they will continue to receive health benefits.

It's not just The Motor Company® either. Industry sales are down in the US, for all manufacturers. Tough comps from the past three years of solid sales growth. In this environment you end up with charts like this...

Well, hope fully the latest rate cut will help all.

In the past 5-7 years there were way too many wrong and not so kosher people in the mortgage business. People were making loans that customer was not able to maintain. Putting people in the programs that made no sense to them.

Not to put all the blame on the lenders and mortgage people. Some customers were demanding things that were borderline illegal or stupid and there were lots of people willing to accommodate them.

Last month one of my customers could not understand and thought I was lying to him when I told him that I only made 1.5k on him. It appeared that he was accustomed to something much much more then that, in the range of 5-7K. and could not figure out where I stuffed the rest. Took me a while to show him that there were no hidden charges and that next time I will be glad to set him up with the loan that would pay me 5k if he so wishes :)

Now the dry out of the last year hopefully cleaned out the heard and with the latest drop we will see some sense coming back to customer and lenders. Which in turn should help your case.

Not all is lost though!

Hmmmm...let's see....in Jan 2007,if you owned 1 share of HOG, you had about $73.50 worth of paper....if you own that share today, it's worth about $48.50....net loss of about $25.00, or 34%. BUT, the good news is that you will get a dividend of about $.30, making your $48.50 share today worth about $48.80, a net gain of about .6%.

To wrap it up....you are down 34% on price per share, and they give you back about .6%, so now your loss is at around 33.4%....you be correct, not ALL is lost, but damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....

Hmmmm,

I think we all could see the over saturation of the HD market coming on strong some years back...

I guess this is an example of what happens when you catch up and pass the supply and demand mark...

Maybe they should start a huge HD accessories campaign?? You know so everyone can feel like a

rebel, a true individual, all sporting the same ole HD logo on everything they own......

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! No surprise to me!!!
