Harley-Davidson® will idle its plants for the final week of November because of slow sales.
Harley-Davidson® will be closing the plants the week of Nov. 26, the company told its employees Friday.
Based in Milwaukee, Harley-Davidson® also has an assembly plant in York, Pa., and three manufacturing facilities in Wisconsin.
The assembly plant in the Northland, Kansas produces the Harley-Davidson® Sportster, Harley-Davidson® Dyna and Harley-Davidson® V-Rod motorcycles as well as custom bikes. The plant has about 1,000 workers, including about 850 hourly employees.
Joe Capra, business representative for Machinists Local Lodge 778 in Kansas City, said employees won't be paid for that week off in November, although they will continue to receive health benefits.
It's not just The Motor Company® either. Industry sales are down in the US, for all manufacturers. Tough comps from the past three years of solid sales growth. In this environment you end up with charts like this...
