Just got back from the hospital, he is doing okay. The physiotherapists had him on his feet twice and up sitting for awhile today. So far no complications. :yahoo:
Great news! I hope things continue to improve for everyone. Who says Canadian health care isn't great? ;)

Spend the time with him that you need to, but remember he needs some private time too. Sometimes as a care giver it's easy to forget to respect that when you're worrying about how they are doing and if everything that needs to be done is getting done.

I hope he recovers well and you and Barb can still enjoy some worry free traveling.

I know exactly what your going through! I've got a 92 yr. old mother with 2 hip replacements with me that's very trying at times. Hope your father-in-law recovers fully! Wishing for the best for all of you!

take care of yourself also - you ain't any use to anyone if you let your own batteries get all used up.

I hope Barb's Old Man gets better swiftly and that you all keep on, keepin' on

It's been 12 days now. Physically he's healing up well. He is very fit for his age.

I knew he'd be fine when he woke up from the surgery and was groping the 20 something nurse's arm in recovery and telling her how pretty she was...

Now he's just depressed. Since my mom passed away he has been very lost. He has the beginnings of Alzheimers, which does not help his confusion.

Some days he tracks well, some days not so much.

Tomorrow he will be assessed for possible release, but he is not all that excited about the prospect of going home. Not sure where we go from there, but, whatever he wants we will do what we can to facilitate.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts, and your patience while I blow off a lil steam posting here.

Glad things are moving along and hope your dad gets into a routine at home as quickly as possible -- that usually helps. And tell him it isn't the nurses arms he's supposed to grope :D Right after anesthesia is the best time to grope, since you can blame confusion from drugs... not that I know of course. :p

Take care of yourself.

BTDT....thankfully mom is still with us. I understand the trepidation and frustration you are suffering.

Glad you were both there to do such a wonderful thing for him. I'm sure with the loss of his wife not too long ago he may not be thinking about himself the way he should. At least with you both to watch over and care for him he may just realise there are people who still care for and love him.
