Wow, I ran into the same thing heading toward the AIMS bike show in Orlando. I was going to the show from Sanford. The winds had me riding in a damn near a 45 degree angle. I almost got blown off my bike several times. Up ahead I saw all sorts of police car lights. When I got to it there were about a half dozen Harleys laid down in the median. It was brutal. Never experienced that before. Don't ride in that stuff unless you have no choice.
That reminds me of wind storm I rode through on I-210 near San Bernardino, CA about 8 years ago. IIRC, we had steady 50+ mph winds, causing me to lean way over to compensate. The part that really made it interesting though, was the area I was riding had intermittent sections of concrete block sound wall. So when I'd ride past a section of sound wall, the wind would immediately stop because the sound wall was acting as a wind break, the bike would then want to dart off into my lean, This continued as I went in and out of sections with sound wall, needless to say, it was hairy. Whats worse, I was riding with about 30 days experience at the time.
