I've had a strange plastic-y buzzing on the right side of the bike at low speeds ever since I bought it. Assumed it had something to do with being dropped by the PO on that side. The other day I decided to see if I could localize the problem. Found that if I touched the battery cover with any amount of pressure, the buzzing went away. Finally took the battery cover off this morning and realized it was missing a fastener. I have the two hex-headed screws on top (front/back -- silver/black), but don't have the third, that's on the side near the triple clamp. What type of fastener goes there? The hole isn't threaded, so I'm not sure what to look for.

Any thoughts on where to order them from? I read somewhere else people usually order a bunch of the plastic fasteners all at once to make it worthwhile, but I can't find that thread either (I don't know why I can't make the search here find what I'm looking for...).

Thanks!

Go to "Faqs & Common Historical Info" and check the post by Kaitsdad complete w/ great photos on Gen II fairing removal, ...should be 3 screws along the outer edge and a pair of push fasteners on the inside edge. I was just there w/ a question myself.

While you are at the FAQ location, you might want to look at this thread: Alternate Parts Sources

I have just placed 2 orders with Gary @ Mondak Motor Sports. Talk to him directly, not the parts counter. I usually go to the Yamaha website and use their parts catalog to get the part numbers and amounts then email Gary. He'll email back with a price list, then I call him with my credit card.

I took my cover off & saved the screws for another job. It's just 1 less piece of plastic to remove when I need to get to the battery.

you are just missing a black plastic rivet part number 90269-06001-00.

look HERE to see the part you are missing it is #80.

You can get a replacement at NAPA or Lowes. Take one from the other side for a good match.

Resurrecting an old thread ... has anyone found an online source for these rivets (90269-06001-00 and 90269-05074-00)? I don't have a Napa or Lowes anywhere near.

I found some at a local auto parts store that fit. They work a little differently, but were the same size, mounted flush, and held the piece solid. I think it was Advance Auto Parts, but other stores should have a selection as well.

Focus on function over form and you'll find a much cheaper alternative to the yamaha part.

Agreed. The challenge I have is that I have been to the local Ace hardware store, auto parts stores, and even Fastenal, with no luck. I'm hoping to find something online, because I don't really feel like driving two hours to get to a Lowes or Home Depot or Autozone only to find out that they don't have them.

At this point ... it looks like McMaster-Carr might have some (90137A321 and 90137A311) ... and I'll spend $30 on 50 of each to try them, if I don't get more definite responses here.

I ordered some from Big Number One Yamaha in Birmingham, AL. :)

I bought them at CYCLEMAX (credit should go to RaYzerman19)

Frankly, come to think of it, I think it's a piss poor design. That crappy rivet plus the holes are difficult to line up properly on the two screwins.
