I spoke with someone a while back while I had my fjr who had done just that.

He moved the battery under the seat for better handling. He said in the end it really didn't make much of an impact. He ultimately went to an ST and was very happy with the handling.

Low centralization of weight is one key to great handling. R1 has battery under seat. R1 has no hot battery issues. R1 handles like race bike. Would rather have another storage compartment in place of the current FJR battery location.

I must say that the location of the battery surprised me at first but it seems to make a lot of sense to keep it cooler and cleaner. It really isn't that hard to access once you figure out the panels and who needs to access it very often anyway.

Relocating it would be WAY down on my list and WAY WAY down on my list of negatives regarding the FJR. I doubt that anyone could tell a differece in the handling unless it was a back to back comparison on a race track with the exact same fuel levels. I know I'm not fast enough to tell the difference.

On my 03 without ABS i made a box that fits that dead space below the tool tray and use it for storage. All my flat tire stuff goes there along with fuses, extra tools, light bulbs, tow rope, siphon hose, etc....

+1 jestal. save the room for other 'stuff'. If you move the battery under the seat -- all the other 'stuff' would have to be where the battery is - harder to get to. I'd leave the battery alone (not often I gotta mess with it), and put the more accessable accessories under the seat where they're easier to get to.

Bad usage of space, buddy. That area in question is to be used for entering dry counties in the U.S. Ya know....them nazi states that don't let you buy hard liquor in that part of the state? Thus, the space under the seat....specifically designed for transport of hard liquor, i.e....jim beam....jack daniels....makers mark. Check it out.....it's proven....on the internet.

and it's obviously where odot might be keeping his pot to boil water for newborn baby deliveries.. :dribble:
