Recently read an article that reccommended to go with AGM batteries, to do the charge staying put. (particulaly during winter).

I have to replace my battery ( Bike Master MG14B-4) as it discharges in 1 week of sitting (during summer or winter,) requireing a jump. It stays charged for the 3 days of riding, then goes flat after sitting.

1- What reccomendations are there out here for a replacement given the priority is to start the bike and run accessories like GPS, lights and phone?

2- Also noted AGM batteries range from $50- 120. Any actual testimonies? Please spare me the speculation.

Motobatt...best battery I've ever had on any bike.

A battery that discharges itself in 3 days may or may not be bad.

You might have a high parasitic drain on that battery. Before droppin' the hundo on a new battery, try disconnecting the battery and recharging it on the bench, then checking it in the same 3 days time.

Alternatively, if you have a DC ammeter, you could just do a drain test on your bike. Just disconnect the negative cable from the battery and re-complete the circuit with your ammeter leads with the key remaining off!! That will display how much drain your bike's electrical system is putting on the battery just sitting there overnight.

Most often a high parasitic drain is caused by some farkle that was added straight to the battery, so be extra suspicious of any of those.

Or you could just spend the Benjamin on an new battery and if that doesn't fix it and you still have the same problem then you can try doing the drain test. After-all, it's only (your) money. ;)

batterystuff.com sold me a "Scorpion" battery of all things. Have no idea how long it will last but it was only $75.00. It is about a 1/16 too tall but the bracket can be slightly bent to accommodate.

Check out or search Shorai if you want to spend a bit more.

I bought one too from them a couple weeks ago......lets keep each other posted on how long they last!

I've got a new Yuasa in the garage waiting for the old one (oem) to die one day. $97.99 from Chaparral on E-bay a few months ago. I wanted the same exact battery as oem, since my '08 is still firing just fine even after sitting all these winters. Perfect fit, incredible reliability. What more could you want from a battery?

That's what I've been saying all along!!

I'm inclined to agree. I do have a WestCo in the FJR right now, but the last two batteries I've bought (for V-strom and VFR) are both OE Yuasas. If you shop around you can get some pretty good deals on them. I like that they are dry shipped and you activate it when you want to install it.
