Well, I just got my confirmation email and I am registered to run in my first multiday rally this July. :yahoo:

www.beastintheeast.org

It runs from July 1-6 next year. Starts in North Carolina, checkpoint near Albany and then back to NC for the finish. This is the first year for the event. But it is being run by the same people as "the void" and Mason Dixon 20-20 rallies.

The only problem is, they need 25 riders to place their deposits by Mid December for it to be a go. Now that words starting to get out a bit more registrations are starting to come in. I have emailed the rallymasters and they are still confident they'll reach the number. They understand that this is the first year for a new rally so it takes time to get the word around. I asked if I could help by posting a reminder here and they had no problem with that. (So here it is)

If you've been thinking of entering a multiday LD rally what are you waiting for? Enter now! If you made it into the IBR next year this will be great practice. If you didn't make it into the IBR next year dont sit around home depressed, come out and ride this rally. If you've lamented the fact that many of the LD rallies seem to be west of the Mississippi then this East Coast rally is for you. Never tried one and want to see what all the fuss is about, here's your chance! Already done an LD rally? Here's your chance to try undo the mistakes of your past rallies!

PS. Please note that other than being registered to ride in the rally, I have no affiliation with the rally organization. Just posting this message for the benefit of other FJR riders.

Oh Yea.

I'm all over this rally.

It should be a blast, even if I get lost half the time out east.<G>

There will NOT be a Multi-Day SPANK rally in 2007, so besides the Invite-Only Iron Butt Rally, the Beast in the East is the ONLY other Multi-Day rally I know of. Get on the stick and sign up if this floats your boat. It sure floats mine. Ahoy Mateys!

See you there!

July 1-6..........................Are we talking about a 5,000 mile endurance rally?
That's my understanding. :D

And I'll be very disappointed if I do any less than that! :yess:

Guess that means I'll have a bit of a home court advantage. heh heh heh.... Seriously thou, This rally is over the July 4 weekend (which I suspect was intentional). All those people on the Eastern seaboard going out and choking the roads. I'm thinking "traffic management" in your route planning is going to be an issue for this one.

Hey GZ: You and me make two, any idea how many other FJR's are entered so far?

Now that I've got the confirmation I am rapidly getting myself seriously psyc'd for this event. Already making a wish list of mods for the bike over the winter months (Fuel Cell, GPS, lights, Russel Seat, etc). Have to see what Santa drops off and what my budget is. Oh man, I am so looking forward to this event. :hyper:

Yeah, good luck with that!

Virginia is horrible for very low tolerance of speeding, no radar detectors, and helicopter speed traps.

4th of july weekend is the most patrolled weekend, and also has the highest number of checkpoints for DUI/DWI.

Of course I'm not condoning violating speed limits during a rally, but the extra traffic and extra traffic control measures will make for an interesting rally. This area is a lot more densely populated and has heavier traffic than some of the western rallies, as I understand. I'm sure the far west coast is just as, if not more congested, however.

Colin,

no idea on # of FJR's, but they are usually almost 50% of most rally's these days.

At least among the bikes that actually finish the event.<G>

I sooo wish I could do this one. It's an outstanding group of rallybubbas -- Rick Miller who puts on the Mason-Dixon 20-20, Gary and Scott who put on The Void, Bryan Moody who used to put on the Feast in the East. The staff they're lining up is also excellent and experienced on both sides of the scoring table. This should be an outstanding rally. And you guys from the west will get to learn what we have to contend with to complete an LD ride on this side of the river.

Anyway, I'll get to do the MD 20-20 again over Memorial Day weekend, but I'll have to sit out the BiTE due to family commitments. Poop. :(
