Or, since we were talking of Harbor Freight, how about this one here:

Problem with that one is depending on how high your trailer hitch is, sometimes the angle of the drop-gate is steep enough that you drag your exhaust or lower fairing as you go over the high spot...not pretty.

Just my $.02
I'd try a dry run /w loading it in the ranger; get a full width ramp and find a loading dock / ditch to lessen the angle of the ramp / truck.
To lessen the angle of the trailer-ramp interface you could back the REAR wheels of the towing vehicle onto a piece of 4x4 or 4x6. That's what I've done with trailers that have low tongue height. Sure, it makes the trailer bed incline but it eliminates most of the "hump" at the hinge.

I'm in the military, and when I PCS from duty station to duty station, I'm bringing that FJR with me. So what's a good, cost-effective method of bringing it with me from base to base. I understand a trailer would be a safe way to tow it behind my Ford Ranger, but I dont want to spend so much $ on a trailer that I'm literally going to use once every few years.
What options do I have?

C-130 LAPES in front of your new house. Just need to find a 463L pallet, a ring slot parachute, some tie downs & a willing USAF crew.

But seriously folks. Just get yourself a small trailer and strap her down. Trailers are cheap if you want to buy one used. Finding a place to store it between uses is a pain. If you don't want to own one, rentals from uhaul work great and won't break the bank.

Cheers,

I moved my old SV back and forth between Houston and FBGA for my all-expenses-paid vacations to Iraq, and again when I ETSed. I do have a full size truck, so fitting the bike back there was no problem at all. Grab a Joe or three, bikes go up in the truck real easy. Same goes for taking it down. When I moved from Houston to San Marcos, post-ETS we ended up using a 26' U-Haul to move all of my (and my sister's) crap. There was enough space in the back for the SV, so I just rode it up in the back and strapped her in. No problems at all.

Later, when my folks moved my brother from Ruston, LA to Little Rock, AR they did the same thing. Only my folks rode my Dad's GL1800 to Ruston. The GL1800 went in the back of a shorter U-Haul. No problems there either. I'm sure the FJR would fit just fine.
