I got a Valentine 1 within months of getting my FJR back in 2005, and with 77,000 miles on the clock, so far I have not been cited, and not for lack of opportunities. As Iggie says, the directional arrows really make a big difference. No matter what device you use, they will always be a supplement to experience and common sense, but in my opinion the V1 provides the best range of useful information for avoiding those roadside document exchanges.

I bought a TPX version one for its quick release and water proof features and really like those items. however, it sure did have alot of false positives. I used it mostly for riding locally and when I wasn't paying attention, I didn't want to get caught. I didn't need a V1 because i figured, if you don't want to risk getting caught at highly illegal speeds, don go that fast period. So it worked for saving me from inadvertent speed changes, like a 45 moves to 25mph then back up to 45. The cops sit at the 25 and try to get the meat and potatoes tickets.

If I had the money, sure I would've bought a V1.

Within 3 months of getting my '07 new, I got my first ticket on a bike, ever. Got a V1 after that, and it has saved my bacon numerous times. The sensitivity is great, giving me plenty of warning, it filters out junk signals, and the directional arrows provide an extra measure of info. I use a Marc Parnes visual alert velcroed to the top of my windshield during the day, and move it to the top of the V1 mounted on my brake reservoir at night. (That SOB is B-R-I-G-H-T!)

My only ticket since using the V1 was courtesy of aircraft patrol. So even if you get the best, it's still no absolute guarantee. You just have to be willing to pay the piper if their bag of tricks outshines yours, so don't ride faster than you can pay.
