Had they picked the K1200S as the Sport-Tourer (all you need are saddlebags) I would have thought it a cool, intelligent pick. But to pick anything ahead of the either the FJR or the K1200S is typical of CW's stupidity over the last several years. I'm stuck with my sub until 2008! :angry2:

Just look at the pictures. It's like porn for a cyclist.

Back on topic ...

I've ridden both extensively. Picked the FJR regardless of the price. KGT was not even in the final 3, for me. I simply can't see anyone using a KGT as an LD mount. My wife couldn't get off the pillion fast enough!

jimbemotumbo, just was wondering if you rode the latest KGT? Other than the comfort what else didn't you like?

I have ridden the K1200GT & while it's sporty for a touring bike, it cannot hold a candle to the FJR as a Supersport tourer.

But that's just my 2 cents worth. B)

Yes, an 06. They had one about 150 miles away. I was also testing a KLT and a new RT, so I guess they figured me for a sure thing. Hated the ergos. Pegs are in the wrong place for me. More lean than the FJR, which is already pushing it for me. I was hoping it would have been like an RT in fit with a K motor ... something I'd still be VERY ineterested in. KGT is damn good looking, but uncomfortable. FJR handled nearly as well, and had better suspenders. Power felt about the same. Range wouldn't be as good on the GT ... a big problem for me.

I also don't yet trust BMW reliability. Essentially a brand new model, and I know too many with major trip interruptions due to either simple but unfixable (on the fly) issues to severe problems like drive train failure.

Nope, I'm not gonna take a $20 grand chance. Especially since a 3 year old KLT with low miles goes for 11k around here.

When they get that RT and K motor marriage, I'll sign up and buy that extended warranty.

I've also thought the best "marriage" BMW could do was drop the 1200 engine into the RT package. I wonder if they're afraid the Boxer RT sales would plummet?

Who really cares anyway. I'm happy with my '05, have been since I picked it up, and haven't looked back.

The magazines do the lamest reviews, seldom slam any JAP or EU bike in a huge way because of advertising $$$$. The internet is where to go for bike reviews. Real people, real world experiences, no holds barred commentary. Crackpots included!

At least they are taking a crack at cycling :yahoo:

great pic I think something else was left in San Francisco..................... :yahoo:

Never ceases to amaze me that the magazines are crap except when they name the FJR BOTY...
