Just wanted to give a big thank you to all the great people on this site for the fun, info and help I have had the last year. And also a goodbye, as I have sold the FJR to back to more sporty and something totally different. I traded it for a, in my opinion, gorgious BMW R1100S. Totally different and uncomparably, but I am sure I will love it.

Picking it up Wednesday:

This all doesn't nesessarely mean I will stop reading here, but I guess I will be frequenting some of the beemer/oilhead boards more.

Ride safe!

AB,

Now if you were like me you would just buy the new bike and keep the old one. Good luck with the new ride and make sure you come back to visit us to give us some input about it.

I wish.. The things are way too expensive here for me to afford more than one bike. :)

Once I get some miles under my belt I'll come tell about it. I'm sure it will be.. umm.. different. :p

That is one BEAUTIFUL F**KING MOTORCYCLE! I'm jealous! (But I DO love my FJR). Hey, did you look at the K1200R:

Or its disguised touring version (K1200GT):

160 HP! I'd like to own one some day. But you can't beat the price-value you get with the Yamaha over the BMW. $18K base for the GT, not to mention service.

Enjoy!

JB

Thanks guys. It's a 2003 model, that has the little quirks fixed. Things like splines disintegrating or clutch seals braking for a spray of oil over the rear wheel should not happen with this model anymore. ;)

Seriously, I wanted something sportier to better fit my riding style. As a friend of mine said when I told him: "It seems to support your longer inseam hooligan approach to life".

On the down side, I seem to have trouble finding an openminded, friendly, dictatorial forum like this one for BMW oilheads. Plenty of BMW stereotype-like places around, but **** me if I change my attitude towards life and riding over the logo on the tank.

Nice "skooter". I hope you love it as much as you imagine. I don't know how the owners are in Europe, but over here, while we love our FJRs and enjoy "ribbing" those who ride other brands, it's all about the ride, so let's "saddle up" and go.

Well, given that most BMW's are about €5000 more expensive than their Japanese equivalent it invites people that buy em so they can say they have one.

That said, IRL most beemer riders just ride.

Hey AB, Great looking bike ! Enjoy the new ride and we know they're all good as long as its 2 wheels !!!

Later Gater. Stay Safe.

Bobby

Hey ab, after you pump a 5-10 thousand Km on that purty new bike, come on back & give us the skinny, good bad & indifferent. Always want to hear a real owner's opinion on a bike instead of the advert-speak of the moto mags.

Stunning paint job!

Check out https://www.bmwsporttouring.com/ I use to belong to that site when I had a R1150RT. It is a great site with friendly folks. Check it out.....

Thanks, and will do. Can't wait to put some miles on it. :)

Paint job is one of the standard versions as it was carried here in 2003. (does BMW do the same BS with colors like Yammie and Honda in the US?)

The second bike pictured in your post is the "old" K12 with the longitudinally mounted four. Here's the new transverse four version:

I rode my '99 R1100S through thick and thin. She's a great bike and will bring you many years of pleasure. Just one piece of advice, get the corbin and get it quickly (if it doesn't already have it). After my first trip, the stock seat felt like a broomstick.
