Just wanted to post a big thanks to everyone for all the great advice in the FAQ and on the forum in general. And a special thanks to 03HiYoSilver. He was nice enough to come over to my place with his sync tool. Now with new iridium plugs, and a good carb sync my 03 is purring like a kitten. We also did the barbarian jumper mod but I haven't changed any settings yet. With the way it's running I'll probably end up just leaving it alone.
And just for a little background so you don't scratch your heads and think, "he's just now doing this stuff on an 03 ???" I've only had the bike for just over a year. The original owner only put 2600 miles on her. (no typo there folks two-six-zero-zero miles!!) I'm up over 10,000 now. I figured with that low milage I didn't need to worry about things too much if it was running ok and was just following the normal maintenance schedule. Now, thanks to all your advice and some help from 03HiYoSilver she's running even better.
We did find one interesting thing that I should have checked when I got the bike, considering how much time the bike sat idle before I got it. When we pulled the air filter we found evidence that the communist Chinese have been messing with my bike in the past as there was some mousey dung in the air filter. So next trip to the bike shop is gonna be for a new filter. In addition to the mouse mess in the filter there were also some nuts. So now I can feel safe refering to my bike as "she" since it no longer has nuts.
And speaking of nuts....while I had the tank up I added some insulation to the underside of the gas tank. I found some tape for wrapping around water pipes at the hardware store. It has some self adheasive foam insulation with foil on the non-sticky side. I put a layer of this stuff on the bottom of the tank to see if it would help keep "the boys" a little cooler on the ride home from work. Reviews on that will be posted at a later time after I see if it was worth it.
Thanks again!! :clapping:
