'05 FJR. Problem started this morning.

Bike starts fine in neutral and warms up.

Pull in the clutch lever, shift into 1st gear, sidestand up, and the bike dies.

Try to start it in gear and nothing.

Shift into neutral and it starts right up!

HELP! Where do I start looking!!??

First I'd check & make sure my kickstand was up & the sensor that says it is is clean, lubed & working.

Amen on the side stand suggestion. Three different people all with the same suggestion, I do believe I'd start at the side stand. If you would, tell us what you find, thanks and Good Luck.

Can't remember if FJR has it, but my old V-Star had another sensor on the clutch lever itself. So, you have two switches to check now.

Don't recall any sensor on the clutch lever, but I've had the sidestand sensor problem. That's exactly what happened to me - shift into first and she died...

Roger side stand switch problem.

The 'starting circuit cut-off relay' does see the clutch switch, however in this case go with the popular vote and check that the plunger on the sidestand switch moves freely.

+ a bazillion on the sidestand switch.

The FJR does have a clutch switch also and I had problems with mine early in it's life. But with the clutch switch, the bike would still start, but only in neutral. The faulty clutch switch just prohibited the bike from starting in gear with the clutch pulled in. I had no problems shifting it in gear and riding once it was running.

I removed the switch, cleaned the dirty contacts with a pencil eraser and some solvent, and *PRESTO*, all was righteous with world again. It was a really easy job to do.

Make that a bazillion plus the prior votes plus another. I had to replace my sidestand switch after it stopped working. My problem was that the spring for the plunger broke in half, so the plunger wouldn't extend when the sidestand was raised up. That resulted in a false indication that the sidestand was always down. I got by while waiting for a replacement part by reaching down and pulling the plunger out after raising the sidestand, but it's pretty close to the cat. . .

Will check, clean and lube (if need be) and get back with findings.

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions!

Jim
