Darn Journeyman,

When I first starting as a helper my boss decided to take me in and teach me estimating. Well, one of my first bids that we won was for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission here in Rockville Maryland.

I went to help out on the job site one day and the journeyman had ran the wrong color wiring for what was suppose to be 277. We had to pull all of the 110 wire out and I was to say the least pissed. I was so mad my boss sent me back to the office.

Just installed the R&G Sliders - one suggestion I got from an old post was to drill the pilot hole, verify center, drill to 1\2 inch, then use a Dremel to finish the job. I pulled the fairing one the first side and did the "Grease spot" technique (grease the bolt head, press the fairing in place, grease spot marks the hole location). I used the 1\2" and then the 3\4" cylindrical sanding attachment on the Dremel. Did a perfect job. It was so easy that on the other side, I eyeballed center, drilled the 1\8" pilot hole, verified center, and finished the job perfectly without removing the fairing. Piece of cake.

Well, I just installed the Bike Johnny Sliders. Got the unibit - definitely glad I did. I had a little trial and error getting the hole lined up with the center of the bolt. I would have been in a heap of trouble with a hole saw. So I definitely recommend using the unibit.

Those that use the hole saw - you have my respect.

If anybody in N. Illinois needs to borrow a unibit to install the BJ sliders...pm me.

When I did mine, I tried to fixture a hole saw. I thought it would work, but I chickened out - didn't want to f*ck up my fairing. So, I bought a 1" bit from Sears for $39. Wasn't nuts about dropping the coin for one job, but I'm glad I did. I have used it for a bunch of projects, including drilling the hole for the powerlet socket in the panel. Good tools are never wasted.
