What would DoG do?
Does anybody have a policy to cover them in case of debilitating injuries, i.e. the kind of thing that leaves you needing long-term care. Plus, I guess it would need to provide enough replacement income to cover your bills once your employer cuts you loose (which, if you're self-employed, would be immediately).
If so, can you point me in the right direction and give an idea of cost?
Here's the deal: Eve has raised some very valid concerns based on the condition of her former principal. He has been transferred to a local rehab hospital, but they can't provide the kind of care he needs for his brain injury. They want to transfer him to a facility out-of-town which specializes in the kind of care he needs, but it's not covered by the school district's insurance, and it runs $1800.00/day. Not the kind of thing his wife, also a district employee, can afford. Who could? That's almost $700,000 a year for medical bills, and they're talking in terms of years, not months or weeks, for his recovery. He's the 1%'er guy who got boned by wearing a helmet.
For right now, I'm just researching availability and costs. It may be unobtainable or cost prohibitive, but with the state of current events close to my life, it's something that needs to be addressed. Thug's recent reminder hasn't helped me to stay blissfully ignorant either.
