Bike Rental In L.A.

I'm taking a trip to L.A. June 20-24. I would like to look into renting a bike while there so I can do the Pacific Coast Highway.

I'm not familiar with California, so I figured some of you CA guys could help me figure this out.

If I rent a bike (probably BMW, not renting a Harley) does the Pacific Coast Highway run into L.A.? If so, is that a good stretch of the highway?

Can I do a good chunk of the Highway if I ride N. from L.A. for 2.5 hours, then turn around and come back? or is that a crappy part?

Also, anyone know of a place that rents FJR's? If not a place to rent a BMW?

Any info appreciated, I'm not even sure if this will materialize because most places make you rent the bike for a 2 day minimum and I will only have 1 day to ride.

The 1st one is prolly your best bet. I see them all the time delivering/picking-up bikes.

PCH comes outta Santa Monica and goes north to Camarillo. That's about 45 mins. From there you can pop on the 101, buy me lunch and I'll run you back through Ojai and Mulhulland. When you coming?

You don't get into the 'traditional' scenic Hwy 1 until north of Morro Bay - about what, 2 1/2 - 3 hours or so north of LA. The ride everyone talks about/does is from Morro Bay north through Big Sur and you end up in Monterey. You should leave yourself plenty of time to do it for stops, pictures, etc. If you are going to do that ride which I recommend you do, best not to do it on a weekend, if thats all you have, so be it. However, the ride from LA north to Santa Barbara is nice, from Santa Monica your on the coast through Malibu and into Oxnard. Also, Santa Barbara is a great town to play in.

TWN: I'm thinking of trying to do this on June 21st or 22nd. 21st is a Thursday, 22nd Friday. Like MikeYork said, I would like to avoid doing it on a weekend due to traffic.

I could do either day if you can meet me somewhere. A tourguide would be very appreciated!

How many miles am I looking at round trip from L.A.? It's weird that the rentals only give you 150 miles, it's $20 for each 100 miles thereafter.

Now I just gotta decide.... Interceptor, or Multistrada???? Hmmm... 800 or 1100 cc's???? I think I already know the answer...

When I rented a Wingabago from Cruise America in '03...unlimited miles. Have fun on your trip...stomp on my old SB stompin grounds for me.

I think I'm here either day. You're prolly looking at 300 miles. I could meet you at the PCH somewhere in Malibu and then give you a tour of the Santa Monica Mountain's canyon roads or run you up the coast into Ojai and back as I said. I'm sure Fairlaner, Barabus and the other retirees might could join us, too.

You bring that pole dancer with you and I'll buy lunch!
