CAPS, Exclamation Points!!!!!, and Grammar. Probably not the end of the world, but MAKING THAT TITLE ALL CAPS!!! will probably garner unwanted attention from an admin. Remember that a well-crafted post is going to get more attention and invite less dogpiling.

As long as you have that little "++" by your group....you're good. ;)

"Stock FJR Specific Discussion" as a title may help alleviate the problem. I am probably guilty too as the title doesn't mention stock only but mentions FJR Specific discussions which would include modifications . . . I will do my best to read more into the title in the future. Thanks Iggy . . . .

Apire to post something new and different and feel good if something doesn't get move.
Grammar?

CAPS, Exclamation Points!!!!!, and Grammar.
Spelling?

Sorry...I had to.

;)

BTW; how does one acheive the "+" or the "++" status? Generated by post count?

It could well be:

The amount of your "quality" posts (There are many who are well over 2K-3K posts).

Your time on the forum (There are many who have been here for years).

Your general reputation as a trustworthy and honorable member (Because some have been here for a great amount of time and have helped, aided, counseled, taught and generally been what could be characterized as a decent human being).

Or maybe...the admins draw straws or cast lots to determine who will be allowed privileges.

Er...uhm...if you have to ask.... :dribble:

Curious and nothing more.

Hell, take all my "+" away....I'll still get a full night's sleep.

Uhhh....on second thought....let's not take my "+" away.....I may lose a little sleep.

Typo. A far less heinous crime, but your point is taken.

Which one? I must be missing something on one of these five words...I checked each with the sources I know?

And the + and ++ is a function of the number of posts. See the link about edit privileges (which I did misspell, but corrected). IIRC it's 500 posts.

I meant to edit out the line you question but completely forgot to actually do it.

Can I have a warning?

Thank you for bringing our attention to the structure of the forum and giving hints to help explain their intent. I will be keeping it in mind when I start my occasional topic, or add my comments to existing threads.

In the spirit of the *33rd rule of acquisition, I would like to say this...

This Forum has been likened as a friendly local gathering place - a coffee house or pub. Feel welcome to come in and chat a while with a friendly group of like minded individuals with one major common interest - the FJR line of motorcycles from Yamaha. We are all guests here and the Admins are our gracious hosts. The discussions at times may be as spirited as our faithful steeds, but the goal is to enjoy each others company and to contribute to the community at large.

Pay attention when our hosts give the friendly correction or admonition, it is their job to keep order to this establishment and to help shape the culture and flavor of discussion encouraged on this forum. Be quick to adopt the basic conventions used here, if you find yourself constantly bucking against the flow or causing friction, ease off and re evaluate your reasons for being here. Play the part of an appreciative guest with the desire to participate to the greater good of the whole, either with your honest and thoughtful inquires, or your honest and forthright answers.

Friendly banter is always welcome - as long as the twinkle in your eye is there for all to see.

Enjoy yourselves.
Thank you,

Brodie

* 33rd Ferengi rule of acquisition...

It never hurts to suck up to the boss!

:)

I haven't read the rules up to this point and I ain't gonna start now...

+1, Gunny, WOOF, and all that jazz. A little common sense goes a long way.
If only sense were more common..............but then there'd be a lot more folks on FJRs and we'd feel less special. But seriously, this is the best source of knowledge on our bikes I've ever seen and the members have been great (and really fast) about answering any questions I've ever had. Thanks all and keep up the good work.

Bike Effects

Another :yahoo: for Jeff at Bike Effects.

Typical disclaimer - I have no stock, money, or other financial interests in Bike Effects. I've met Jeff maybe 3 times over the years, and ridden, IIRC 2x only.

Having said all that, Jeff simply offers SUPERIOR support for the products he sells. What a refreshing environment to do business in!

Example -

I recently bought WABS, which was TwoWheelNut's DL650. It came with a Zumo 550 cradle and StarCom Advance unit. I decided to test the cell phone Bluetooth capability using my proven Zumo and cell phone from the FJR system.

It did not work on the Suzuki. No one could hear me.

Hmm, me thinks, being the bright ( :glare: ) guy I am, I'll take the cable off Wabs and try it on the 'proven' system on the FJR.

It did not work. Ok, me thinks, using advanced electronic sleuthing skills, the 'cable is bad'.

So I put the FJR back to 'stock' condition.. and no one can hear me when placing blue tooth phone calls.

I was *sure* that Wabs cable had 'ruined' my FJR Starcomm.

Called Jeff, we talked about all possibilites..

Long story (somewhat) short, Jeff actually called StarCom (England), got the head tech on the phone for a conference call, and essentially allowed me n the brains to talk about what had been done, in what order, measurments, theory of operation, etc.

How often does THAT happen?

Turns out I had multiple failures..

1. Tim had an 'output' cable connected from the Zumo 'Mic' output going to the StarComm 'Phone' input.

2. Right at the moment I disconnected the cable on the FJR, the proven and working platform, the cable became 'open' on the Zumo side of the transformer.

A new Mic-01 cable fixed the problem.

I'll post up later with full details of info gleaned by talking with Andy at StarComm.. and provide a table as how you can determine what cable is in your hand (CAB-35, MIC-01), etc. based upon resistance readings.

Back to topic - Jeff and Bike Effects simply ROCK.

Thanks Jeff,

Don

EDIT - Added proper title formatting for post compliance, corrected typo and reference.

I second that. Any time I've had questions and e-mailed Jeff he has called me back and gone over my needs. The best service for sure!!

Tom

I have purchased a number of items from Jeff over the years, and whenever I had questions or concerns, he has always been upright and more than fair. I can honestly say that he has the best customer service bar none! I have complete and total faith that he will do the right thing for me if there is any question about anything. He makes you believe that you're the only guy he is dealing with when he is obviously a very busy man.

3 thumbs up for Jeff. :clapping:

He is the BEST. :yahoo:
