I bought the bilevel HID lights during the group buy a while back. However, I decided that I didn't want to install them. Anyway, my kid just installed them on his '05 FZ6. I'm curious how folks that have been riding with them for a season or two feel about the them.

The FZ6 has a dual headlight housing with a H4 and an H7, so there was a fair bit of work on the housing with a dremel tool to make both H4 HID's fit.

The end result is pretty nice but I'm worried about mechanical or electrical failure since I have no idea how to replace them.

I know that there was an issue with the way the solenoids worked on the FJR but on the FZ6, I'd say its a clear improvement.

So, is everyone pretty happy with the kits?

Cheers,

Jim

Jim: I was an early adopter of the bi level HID's. '03 FJR. The lighitng is a major improvment on low but not so much on high. The capsuels in my kit ate flipper rather than moving the entire element. I've been having some problems with the flippers in the Hi position when switched back to Lo. Othere than that I'm reasonably satisfied. I've had no failed lamps or electronics.

Yep. After I did some mods to the capsules, detailed here, they perform well. It's amazing how fast the shutters react when switched back & forth. The high beams, which I think are at least as good as stock, disappoint nonetheless. However, the lows, properly aimed, are more than adequate for legal speeds at night, while also getting noticed more during the daytime. The cool factor alone was worth the price of admission! I'd like to get a low beam kit for the Highlander. It's pretty disappointing that Toyota hasn't converted all the separate reflector housings to HID.

I remain a huge fan of the bi-xenon (servo) H4 HID kits. I've had no issues with the kit I've had (it's been in two different bikes including a KLR650 that was ridden off-road a fair piece). Very reliable and so much better than the OEM headlight.

I'm mixed on mine... don't feel like I'm going to be able to get a happy medium between the low & high beams where they are both ideal...

If I was to do it again, I'd do the one low beam, one hi beam...

So why not just rewire it? Only problem is, they don't start quickly and the cycling on and off would shorten the bulb life.
Don't cars with HID low beams usually have halogen high beams?

What if one headlight had an HID and one had halogen, fixed up so it used the whole reflector and aimed high. You could do two bikes with one kit.

Personally, I don't care much for the asymmetry of that setup, but it might work better than stock.
