A number of folks on Facebook have been taking part in a 10 day dirt bike photo challange to get everyone through the winter. I got challenged to post up some stuff but rather than just post up recent stuff I decided to take the opportunity to drag out my old slides and start digitizing all my older material. Here are a few that I shot back in 1983 from the Bewdley Ice Race out on Rice Lake....

Sidecars on the ice is just sick.

In 1983 the Can-Am's with a custom frame made for great flat-trackers and ice racers....

Back then the big boys didn't wimp out with converted motocrossers but rode Harleys and big Yamahas on the ice....

I've been thinking about getting these old slides scanned for quite a while and I'm glad I finally stopped procrastinating and got to it. Only another 1000 or so slides to go through to see what I can find.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but many of those racers used the old Yamaha XS platforms - perhaps the 600 cc variety?

Didn't they run Triumph's to?
You are both correct. The 750 class back then was a mix of Triumphs, Nortons, XS Yamahas and XR Harleys. The races didn't sound anything like today.

The smaller Expert class back then were still mostly 360 Bultaco Astros though people were starting to move over to the Rotax powered machines.
