Blip thtottle Bike Cuts off

Good Day Gentlement:

I have a 2008 FJR 1300A with 6800 miles on it. When I blip the Throttle ever so slightly the engine cuts off. It will start right back up but it cuts off when I blip the throttle. It happens every once in a while not all the time. Any one else experience this problem??? I hate to take it to the shop when it is difficult to replicate it at will. But it does happen every day. I installed a Juice Box but this did not help any. I have 2 brothers exhaust as well. I also get terrible gas mileage...like 28 MPG....HELP!

LOL your funny..I didnt buy it for the gas muileage but I see everyone on here bragging about 38 - 42 MPG and I'm not getting any where near that...maybe to much blipping :blink:

but the bike still should not cut off.

MPG can be a function of how heavy-handed with the throttle you are (including blipping since it's not a Harley). It can also be a function of whether your gas is oxygenated or not. That means many places' winter gas gets word mpg than their summer. It also means large metroplexes in states being watched by EPA tend to get worse mpg than those that aren't.

Was the bike mapped for the new exhaust? Just putting a box on it doesn't mean the EFI is balanced.

Make sure your RPM is at least 1100 RPM... under this and it can cause conditions like this.

(P.S. When you have a Hot Wheelie Machine... it is tough to get great gas mileage)

Throttle position sensor could have an intermittent section in it.

You can check it by going to the diag screen and smoothly rolling throttle on and off. Numbers should increment and decrement smoothly with no jumps.

You may need to do it for a few minutes since you say it doesn't happen all the time.

I don't understand why you are blipping the throttle, but under normal operating conditions, with the idle set properly as described above, it should not stall. Is the engine warmed up before you do this blipping?.

The bike was doing this cut off thing before the new exhaust or the box..Doing it bone stock..I thought the box and the exhaust would help

RPM are at 1100. set by the juice box programmed for this bike with two brothers exhaust.

When I say Blipping I mean you back out of a space, pull the clutch in, give it a little gas(blip) and it cuts off.

First, you need to ride an AE for a while, that will fix your tendency to blip the throttle.

Next, the off idle stalling is not uncommon for Gen IIs. Copy and paste this into the search box and do the search: +blip +stall This is not a complete or comprehensive search but will pull up a few threads where blip/stall is discussed. Give the related threads a read, there are some things which can be done to reduce the tendency to stall. Doing a different search will pull up additional threads about the BS problem I'd almost bet a case of oil filters that the BS problem is not related to the TPS.

As far as gas mileage, what were you getting when your FJR was new? There are many things that can lead to poor mileage but 28 mpg for average riding is pretty bad for a FJR. The only times I've seen mileage like that was after an evening at the drags or test rides on a professional high speed track where I could explore the upper RPM ranges in 5th gear for extended lengths of time. Then again, at 7'6" tall and 750 lbs while running E85 could cause low average mileage too.

Fix one thing at a time so you can keep track of action & result to know for sure how you are progressing. So, which problem to fix first?

Just to clarify this, the idle is set by a thumbscrew on the side of the bike, and not by any electronic box. The only override for the mechanically set screw is he cold-start fast idle system. Neither the ECU nor any add-on box has the ability to set or control the idle.

i also have 08 with 4500 miles.does the same thing when i(blip) the throttle.?wonder why it does that?

My 08 does this also but not with the consistency you seem to be experiencing. I have often had the bike stall on me during a takeoff out of the blue, no reason. "Blipping" the throttle I can almost reproduce the stall pretty consistently but, like many have said, I just don't "blip" the throttle. My personal opinion is the bike is lean enough that a "blip" just plain starves it. Personally, 5000rpms doesn't seem to have many problems associated with it (expect the perpetual grin).
