Sooooo,

If you recall I thought that I may have an impending spider problem and had an issue with blowing the fuse that runs the brake light, neutral indicator and the windshield motor.

I got the Brodie harness installed (Thanks Brodie, quality work there, and thanks Ashe for selling me yours...), put the bike back together, turned the key and everything is cool and working. Hit the starter and she starts....and promptly blows the fuse again.

I ran the brake lights, and windshield motor with it not running and the fuse did not blow.

I did find on the right side of the bike what looks like to be mouse nest . I now fear that a mouse with a taste for wire insulation has chewed into a wire and caused a short causing the fuse to blow, but the fact that it only blew when I started the bike confuses me - any ideas?

I will be removing plastic from the right side tomorrow to look for obvious causes....

Not much to go on, so a couple of thoughts:

One is that there you only used the brake light and energized that wire after the bike was running.

A second is that you're running more current with the alternator running than off the battery. That said, if a short is bad enough to blow a fuse, it generally will do it for either the battery or the alternator.

Fix what you find and keeel the meeces to pieces.

I had a similar problem while on my trip to Oregon. The circuit I had trouble with was the running lights circuit. Finally got it to hold a fuse but can't say that I did anything special to get it to work.

I am going to pull off my plastic so I can see if I can find the short.

Any farkles on the bike such as accessory lighting ?

The headlight and heated grip circuits are only powered after the engine has started. Perhaps you should check the wiring in these areas?

No heated grips and the headlights are on a different fused circuit - only extras are man horns and a GPS that are run off of a Blue Sea fuse block. Off to the garage to strip off the plastic.

I'll have to check the wiring diagram, but curious what diagnostic path you took to get there..........
Looked at the wiring diagram in the manual and saw that the horn was also on that fuse circuit. I have the horn going through my fuse block. Fuse block is ony powered when I turn the key on through another relay that senses power to the running lights. Fuse only blew when I started the bike so it made sense to look there. I just pulled the relay out and stated the bike and no blown fuse. Got out the multi meter and sure enough, i had continuity where there should not have been....and it's the only thing on that circuit that I have screwed with!
