Which of the following statements are true:

-1- I find the unpaved approach to the Honderosa to be a bit intimidating

-2- I rode the 800 plus miles of the Dalton Highway up and back and only crashed once.

-3- Neither 1 nor 2

-4- Both 1 and 2

Answer 4. Go figure.

Don, what can I say except that the empirical evidence suggests that I have trouble with my short term memory. I cannot remember why that might be the case.

I now have 805 miles of off-road experience and 800 of those were quite recent!

We are presently in Skagway having ridden from Tok, AK to Dawson City, YT via the Top of The World Highway yesterday. Dawson to Skagway today. Two "short" days. We are obviously getting lazy.

I have photos to post but do not have a connection for my computer (using hotel's and it won't recognize my camera as a drive) and my IT guy is in SLO so photos will have to wait for a bit.

On the 4th of July we rode from Dawson City to Skagway - the approach to Skagway is gorgeous!

Yesterday we rode from Skagway to Munchos Lake - 485 miles. Also gorgeous south of Watson Lake. We had dinner at a remote lodge with Susan Murphy and Bill Watt who some of you know from the IBA.

Today we rode from Munchos Lake to Prince Geroge - 657 miles, much of it in the rain. Add Highway 29 to the list of great roads to ride (when dry, that is).

Tomorrow's weather forecast is for more rain. We have to check on tires, anyhow so we shall see how the day unfolds.

Photobucket is not enjoying the link we have so photos will, once again have to wait.

8,000 - plus miles so far.

There are many excellent ride reports posted up in here by many forum members, and I

wouldn't want to slight any of them, but I don't think I'm alone in the opinion

that YOU, Joe, are easily the most eloquent writer of motorcycle

adventure narratives in the whole damn place. You oughta do it for a livin'.

I'm just saying.

Your account of your TWN/MCML run to Hyder is still worth going back to for a reread.

And when you're able to add photos to this Alaska run, eets weel be epic!

I can't wait, and thanks. Be safe, ....and give Steve, (the *******) a noogie for us. He likes 'um.

I am presently in Merritt, BC. Steve and each had our rear tires replaced at the Yamaha dealer in Prince George, BC this morning. Steve's tire was going flat overnight. I might have been able to limp home on mine but I saw no sense in laying in a hospital with an extra $300 bucks in the bank. Count me lucky. As it rained a bit today, I was happy to have new tread (and working low beams and a bike that I could start in gear with the clutch pulled in and a temporary left side mirror that could be aimed welll enough to provide useful input). I did not have those things yesterday.

We rode from Watson Lake, YT to Beaver Creek, YT just short of the border with Alaska in a day. When we crossed over the next morning it was wet and cold (as previously posted). This is what the sky looked like.

At the US/Canadian border, the US border guard asked me the purpose of my visit. Slowly, because my motor skills were a bit impaired from the cold, I removed first one, and then a second water soaked glove, unzipped my jacket pocket, removed the plastic bag that held my papers, handed my passport to him in the pouring rain and said, simply, "Pleasure."

This a is picture of Fast Eddie's in Tok, AK. We took refuge there, ate a nice warm meal and decided to pack it in for the day. A Brit we had met in Watson Lake said that Tok looked lie a junkyard that had been ravaged by a fire. While there is one section of it that meets that description, we spent two night there (one on the way up, one on the way back from points north) and I have pleasant memories of the place.

The approach to Valdez was wet and cold but the views were impressive.

I tired to take a photo of Officer Steen but for some reason it is not in my camera. I hear that vampires behave similarly. I did get a photo of a waterfall that you pass as you approach the harbor and by the time we arrived there the sun was out.

Another thing I did not manage to get a photo of was a sign along the highway that read, and I am not making this up, HIGH WILDLIFE CROSSING AREA - USE EXTREME CAUTION. I infer from this that the local fauna has discovered the "locals'" secret herb gardens and, as a result, have put us motorcyclists in even more jeopardy than usual.

We rode back up to Glennallen, AK and spent the night at the Caribou Inn. The Inn had originally been built to house the oil pipeline construction workers and the annex in which we stayed that night still housed many of the local employees. Apparently there had been some pranks recently played.

I crossed the border at Oroville (Wa.) and am spending the night in Omack

Tomorrow I will head south on roads that I have never traveled on before

I plan to follow the Columbia River to Portland and then drone down I-5 (yuk)

Just wanted to say thanks for the offer My tire would never have made it to the border I was happy to make it to Prince George. the Yamy Dealer there too good care of us.

You are certainly welcome! Thanks for the great trip report. I am surprised that you were able to find FJR tires in Prince George on such short notice but that is good information for all of us.

 
Folks, while I, and if I may speak for Steve, too, appreciate the kudos it is fair to say that you ain't seen nothing yet. Where I left off we had not even started up the Haul Road yet!

If what you have already posted are merely the "teasers" and are anything similar to what Highlander poste, we are in for a treat that will be well worth the wait.
