A variation on the long-running Big Money Rally--there are people riding a 3 day rally with live scoring starting at 4:15 a.m. RenoTime. I'm sitting in Bend, OR right now, expecting a packet at 3:15, and hopefully snap my first picture right at 4:15.

Watch and read details at https://bigmoneyrally.com/bmrx/

and my blog at https://mattwatkins.org/blog1/

There are some 2015 Iron Butt Rally riders doing this event as well.

The real time scoring, and running commentary on this Rally is awesome :)

This looks like a lot of fun.
By invite only. fiddle sticks
Pretty sure anyone could have registered when it was first announced. I get confused though. So many people asked me if I was riding it that I may have been invited .. lol

I haven't done the BMR yet. It takes a lot of time, which is fine if you have it. It's also a lot of gas and I haven't been able to afford it. That's just a Rally I will attempt later because it just seems to get better every year.

This part, the BMRx, has me regretting that I am sitting on my sofa.

It can take as much or as little time as you want - that's the beauty of it... there are some who do amazingly outrageous amounts of miles because they can... then there are the rest of us who schedule several weekend or 3-4 day rides to various locales but find some really great sights and roads along the way... I think you'd really enjoy it, Steve... there are going to be some kick a** bonus themes next year...

To echo Tyler ...

If you missed the BMR, you missed a good time. Ride when and where you want; instant bonus submittals and almost-instant scoring; no sleeping on picnic tables or stretched across the bike (unless that really turns you on); no riding 120 mph to meet a checkpoint window; and plenty of opportunity for strategy, since bonus values vary by category and month.

Thought long and hard about the BMRx, but not this summer. I suspect the BMRx will be back in 2016, and I'll enter -- since all my nieces and nephews are getting married THIS summer.

Will be following you, Ignacio. Expecting you to finish safely, and hope you earn a spot on the podium.

Seems like Iggy just got a Performance Award ... Quote:

Still running 3rd in the West Triangle.

Bunch of other FJR riders competing. Best of luck to them all, even if they're not Forum members.

So for those following this rally, the scoring is a little funky, which is why the Leader Board currently looks all screwed up.

Broadly, to make riders complete the triangle they had to offer two bonuses per corner. 100 points for arriving, and 100 points for leaving. That forces riders back to the corner they started from, at the end.

There are about 1000 points in mandatory bonuses, and the normal 1 to 7 points for the others. So Matt has jumped to the top with the second corner plus another mandatory bonus. Erik, who was at the top, has none of these yet.

It will all come out in the wash. Expect every top rider to get all the mandatory stuff, and the difference will be those tiny bonuses. They are where the real points are.

I wish I was riding in this one, instead of watching!

As per BMR "easy peasy finisher" standards: 200 points for reaching and leaving each mandatory triangle vertex, and 200 points each for two 4-hour rest stops ....

(3 x 200) + (2 x 200) = 1,000 points = finisher (Ding! Ding! Ding!)

So .......... ride something like 1,750 miles, take two rest stops, send photos via smartphone to document completion of these achievements in fewer than 66.6 hours, and you, too, can be a BMRx finisher. Easy Peasy.

Too many June weddings and a sailing trip in Maine eating up my vacation days, or I'd be riding instead of typing this weekend. (Yeah, sure, Hud.)

I see Mr. Matt has worked his way up to first place. Go Iggy!
Matt is lying 3rd after the corners and rest stops shook out. Erik Lipps rode a monster first day to be on top of the heap, and the Huvals continue to astonish with their two-up performance. Keep an eye on them.

Eveyone will get the 1000 points. What remains to be seen is just how many 1.1 to 7.7 point bonuses they can scarf up. It's possible that some legs will be more "bonus rich" than others but in this event a 10 point lead is quite healthy.

So now the Leader Board on the Home Page is not accurate as it is only showing points gained in the last 24 hours.

Click the "Advanced" button under any picture submission to get the full board.

Thanks !

Do I dare say "I hope the IBR folks are watching... and learning?"

R.J. has built a wonderful event here!
