Silver Penguin
Andy and I are on the road, each riding BMW GS adventure bikes. We've got the tire pressures down low because most of the riding is off-road.
Monday morning, on the way to find a nice patch of dirt to play in, my bike feels all funny. The rear tire is all but flat and has a nail embedded in it. Thankfully, we're still on the highway, so able to pull into the Visitor Center parking lot.
Andy got the wheel out of the bike OK but now we're confused. The tire itself says tubeless but we believe that it's tubed. The manual is no help. Andy plugged the tire but it wont hold air, so we assume that it must be tubed after all. Can't get the tire off the wheel though.
Great idea - call the free roadside assistance program that comes with the bike. Should have known it was a crock when the guy kept asking if we had a jack. Tried to explain that the bike is on a center stand and that the wheel is already out. It takes about 20 minutes for him to offer to send a tow truck. They will take my bike to either the nearest dealer (100+ miles away) and let it sit until they open on Tuesday, or another dealer much further away. I ask to have the wheel taken to a local no-name brand motorcycle store but they cannot sanction repairs being done anywhere other than an official BMW dealer. Thanks for nothing dude!
The visitor center guy knows someone at a HD shop about ten miles away. Long story short, we strap the wheel onto Andy's bike. He rides to EagleRider of Oak Creek, AZ and they fix him up right away, fitting the new tube that we carried.
Back on the road (trail) again! Will post piccies when we get home.
