Well, it's official: they're out and man are they plush...

Hell for Leather Magazine: BMW K1600GT & K1600GTL

Anyone want to take a guess at the prices these will command (or, better yet, that folks will be insane enough to pay...)?

BTW: The GT weighs in at a "svelte" 703lbs, and the GTL at 767lbs. So, in addition to "plush", I might say they're also rather "porcine".

Me thinks they need to add one more "M" as in BMMW for "Bring Much More Wampam" . Whatever they cost, I won't be getting one. Dealers too far away and too many gizmos to go wrong. Hmmmm, not much words lately about exploding final drives, so wonder if BMW finally fixed it and as usual never mentioned it to anyone. I guess we will see, huh.

Well, I was most impressed with the video clips I watched, but still have lingering doubts about the bells and whistles. After all, according to their last newsletter, BMW's two S 1000 RR's didn't finish the last WSBK competition because one spun out, even with traction control, and the other had unspecified technical issues. This was with a full racing team on site. WBill

iDrive????

You have got to be kidding me.

My guess is $22,999 to start.

If it is $22,999 that will be cheaper than current higher level Gold Wing pricing. I've seen tags at the dealer of $25999 and higher for the Honda. Heck, a 2011 FJR A with no farkles has an MSRP of $15490 according to Yamaha's web site.

If the GT is around 703 pounds, that'll be lighter than an ST1100, or 1300 for that matter. An FJR AE isn't all that much lighter (maybe 650ish if an honest scale is used and the tank's full).

My guess was based on base k1300gt pricing, which IIRC, is 18999 to begin.

Of course, reality is thats the base, and we all know you aint walking out of the beemer dealer without some options and farkleage.

I figure reality will put this bike north of 25k, with only modest options. I'd bet it easily closes on 30k with some of the common boxes ticked and well beyond when "loaded".

Again, just a guess!!!!

That is a beautiful machine for sure! The torgue numbers are right there with the Triumph triple on the big cruiser.

Well...

That is one nice piece of machinery! Maybe, After they work the details out, I will be able to scoop one up used in a couple years.

Kudos to BMW for pushing tech forward and not letting designs stagnate in this crappy market. Still cheaper than a Harley, but not worth the huge increase in price from what I have now. Very cool, though, I'm sure they will be excellent bikes.

Just seems like the competition is playing catchup or gotcha with the elegent and robust design of the FJR. Looking at the videos and in particular the one at the bottom with all the stills, the bike does not measurably advance sport touring design (at least in vids and pics), but does add alot of gizmos and of course the straight six. Am I drooling for more HP? Absolutley Not. More torque? No. The iDrive? There's just not that many bits of information I need to have. To be sure, it's nice but my middle aged FJR is still hands-down the prettiest girl on the sport touring dance floor.

EDIT:

about the I-drive - I was driving my buddy's 545 and I gave up trying to change the volume, lest I crash his car.

I'll bet this was a strategic decision by BMW. Flood the market with thousands of 'em at a cheap price, which will hurt japanese sales and their crazy-overpriced part sales will jump 500-1000% (replacement plastic & parts from all the get-offs because of owners wanting to change radio station or something)

if what's in that article is correct and you actually have 90 lbs of torque at idle, it not only competes with GWs and FJRs but it even adds a valid selling point to anyone looking at the new V-Max. Luckily, you don't have to buy rear tires through BMW$$$$$$$

The weight quoted is inaccurate - the K1600GT is 703 lbs wet without side bags - figure close to 740 lbs with them. Basically it's 80 lbs heavier than the FJR, but with a probably narrower seat and certainly a much lower seat (optionally); the lowest seat available is the GTL seat which is 29.5". Also its center of gravity is supposedly low.

Well, I'm sold on it.

If the finances are there, I'll probably get one in a couple of years.
I put well over 100k on a 1979 KZ1300 and absolutely loved it.

and I want, no I NEED one of these Beemers.

I can taste the koolaid already, seriously.

That bike makes me drool I want it so bad.

I hate to say it but I'm in. :dribble: Now all I have to do is win the lottery.

I checked out the article here. Lots of new "extras" but I think even if I had (My guess) $22K + , I would wait a couple of years. I've always said NEVER buy the first year of anything. Case in point the (cough, cough) Connie 14 when it came out.
