A mad genius, but what a genius. To those too young, it seemed he was the only person America was talking about when he played in 1972 for the championship. RIP

Helluva human being! I always thought it was a shame that certain ideologies belittled and stifled his genius. He was a free spirit living his way. RIP

I remember him as I was just in junior high learning about chess, and here he was battling with the Russians at a game they called their own. In a place called Reykjavik...

Although the two players were pawns in the larger political struggle...he refused to be a pawn...he was his own man.

Yes, and I believe the same Spassky is trying to organize an opposition party to the present Russian regime but is fighting an uphill battle.

Yeah, I have heard more than one professional guess he was certifiably paranoid, but that doesn't take away from his chess accomplishment. Trying to keep this non-political....
